Product Scientist – Metallurgy


Location: Buchs, Zurich


About Us


Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products, Atomic Force Microscopes, Raman Microscopes and Benchtop NMR Products. The Role


We are looking for a Product Scientist to support our Nanoindentation product line, in this role, you will be our in-house metallurgy expert. This is a dynamic, evolving role requiring flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive mindset. You'll work closely with product management, sales, and service teams to drive innovation, support customers, and help grow market share in this exciting field.


Key Responsibilities


1. Support the Nanoindentation product line across multiple business functions.
2. Create and maintain compelling sales materials, including application slide decks and competitor comparisons.
3. Deliver training (internal and external) on nanoindentation techniques.
4. Gather and report customer insights and application trends to shape product strategy.
5. Collaborate with product management to influence the product roadmap.
6. Conduct internal and external product demonstrations.
7. Provide advanced technical sales support to complement local application scientists.
8. Test software builds for bugs and functionality, reporting findings clearly.
9. Take on additional responsibilities as needed in line with business priorities.


About You


10. A PhD in Materials Science (preferably in metallurgy).
11. Extensive experience working with nanoindentation systems.
12. At least 2 years of experience as an application scientist, product specialist, or product manager in scientific instrumentation.
13. Strong technical expertise in metallurgy, nanoindentation theory, and experimental design.
14. Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
15. A proactive, flexible, and collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
16. Willingness to travel and engage with a global customer base.
17. Proficiency in English.
