Postdoc Position in Organic Functional Materials
Join to apply for the Postdoc Position in Organic Functional Materials role at University of Bern.
Overview
The University of Bern is the third largest university in Switzerland. The position offers a world-class scientific environment with an outstanding infrastructure. The Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on a collaborative WSS Grant, 'Werner-Siemens Forschungszentrum für molekulare Quantensysteme (MolQ)'. MolQ aims to develop a new generation of switchable topological superconductors to advance molecular quantum bits for quantum computing and quantum information technologies. The project will focus on design and synthesis of functional molecules to explore structure–function relationships at the molecular level and on controlling molecular assembly and charge pattern on superconducting surfaces. The successful candidate will synthesize polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with unique electronic properties and use them in on-surface self-assembly processes and chemical reactions to create functional 2D nanostructures. The role involves developing synthetic methodologies for functionalized PAHs and investigating optical and redox properties of the molecules, particularly those designed to exploit surface charge/discharge behavior. Applications from candidates with strong expertise in organic synthesis and materials chemistry are welcome.
Responsibilities
The position will contribute to the MolQ goals by focusing on the synthesis and characterization of functional molecules designed to optimize electronic properties and self-assembly behavior on surfaces. Activities include developing synthetic methodologies for functionalized PAHs and fundamental investigations into their optical and redox properties, especially those designed to exploit surface charge/discharge behavior, and supporting structure–function studies and on-surface assembly experiments.
