We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate scientist and leader specialized in RNAi therapeutics to join the xRNA group within the Biologics Research Center (BRC) in Basel, Switzerland as Principal Scientist, xRNA. The xRNA team aims for excellence, driving a diverse portfolio of siRNA assets and platform innovations to modulate gene expression via RNAi. Our team collaborates with Disease Area groups, Global Discovery Chemistry, and Discovery Sciences to expand RNAi applications beyond the liver.
About the Role
As Principal Scientist in xRNA Therapeutics, you will join the BRC as a leader at the forefront of innovative medicine development to improve patient lives. BRC develops biologics in collaboration with Biomedical Research Disease Areas, utilizing technologies for discovery of antibody, protein, gene therapy, and RNA-based therapeutics. The ideal candidate will have a strong research record in drug discovery, providing expertise in developing next-generation RNA medicines and advancing them to patients. You will lead and collaborate across therapeutic and functional areas to grow our RNA portfolio across various diseases.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Lead a team of talented scientists responsible for designing, screening, and characterizing RNAi-based therapies.
2. Establish and implement mid- and long-term goals for the local xRNA team aligned with global strategies.
3. Develop strategies for next-generation extrahepatic RNAi targeting diseases such as renal, cardiometabolic, and cardiovascular conditions.
4. Co-lead RNAi drug discovery and development in partnership with Global Discovery Chemistry and Disease Areas.
5. Collaborate with downstream development teams to advance lead candidates.
6. Coordinate activities with global BRC and other functional groups.
7. Provide innovative solutions to scientific challenges and troubleshooting.
8. Identify unmet needs in Disease Areas and collaborate on therapeutic solutions.
Role Requirements :
1. PhD with at least 5 years of relevant experience, recognized as an RNAi expert.
2. Experience in drug discovery focusing on RNAi design, screening, and characterization.
3. Deep knowledge of RNAi chemistry and biology for lead optimization.
4. Proven success evidenced by publications and patents.
5. Desirable: knowledge of RNAi applications in renal metabolic diseases.
6. Collaborative spirit, good communication, creativity, and ability to multitask in a fast environment.
7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
8. Experience with extrahepatic/kidney targeting of RNAi is preferred.
