For our client - a deep-tech startup in stealthmode - we are looking for a Director of Optical Science & Systems to serve as primary technical authority. This is a "player-coach" role for a visionary who is as comfortable defining long-term IP strategy as they are aligning a laser in the lab.
Your Mission
* Scientific Leadership: Define the architecture for next-generation optical and optoelectronic systems from R&D to product.
* Customer Tech-Lead: Act as the expert face of the company in high-level discussions with industrial partners and research clients.
* Innovation & IP: Drive the patent strategy and technical roadmap alongside the CEO and Chief Scientist.
* Project Ownership: Lead a multidisciplinary portfolio of internal and funded R&D projects, ensuring technical milestones are met.
* Hands-on Execution: Maintain laboratory excellence by validating prototypes and transitioning them into market-ready demonstrators.
Who You Are
* Expert: PhD or MSc in Physics, Optics, or Photonics with a deep background in system design (NIR/MIR, spectroscopy, or MEMS experience is a major plus).
* Leader: Proven track record of managing complex R&D projects and influencing stakeholders without needing a rigid hierarchy.
* Communicator: Native-level English; ability to translate complex physics into actionable business insights. French is a strong advantage.
* Startup Mindset: You thrive in fast-paced environments, take extreme ownership, and possess the humility to work across all levels of the technical stack.
