Position Details

* Position Type: Professional Educator - Elementary


Overview

Large PK-12 Summer School program held on the following dates (dates exclude specialized programs). Staff orientation June 22 (6 hrs), student contact days June 24–July 23, staff wrap‑up July 24 (6 hrs, may be split). Monday–Thursday schedule; Friday off. Staff time 7:30‑1:30 pm (6 hrs paid daily) includes student contact, supervision, and planning. Student contact time 8:00‑1:00 pm.

Specialized Programs

* Additional information will be provided for programs such as Sound of Sun Prairie, Strength & Conditioning, Biking, Agriculture, Musical Theater, etc.
* Additional locations may be used for specialized programs.

Summary

To create a learning environment supported by a positive instructionally focused school climate and to provide intellectually and emotionally safe, engaging classroom communities that evolve towards a personalized culture co‑constructed with students and adults, supporting the success of each learner.


Essential Skills, Duties, and Responsibilities

1. Create Emotionally, Intellectually, and Physically Safe Environments
o Build positive, kind, caring, respectful relationships.
o Nurture self‑awareness, identity development, and sense of purpose.
o Encourage effort, risk‑taking, and strategies for emotional growth.
o Support safe, engaged interactions through co‑created procedures, routines, and classroom design.
o Provide developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant strategies for expressions of emotions and conflict resolution.
2. Implement Equitable, Culturally Responsive, and Standards‑Aligned Curriculum and Instruction
o Deliver challenging, standards‑aligned learning experiences with adaptable curriculum.
o Create an inclusive community that values diversity and learner variability.
o Engage learners in productive struggle to foster perseverance and agency toward high expectations.
o Apply district‑based, standards‑aligned curriculum in accordance with content areas and grade level.
o Promote cultural competence and curiosity about diverse perspectives.
o Facilitate reasoned, evidence‑based discussions, arguments, and ideas.
o Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and provide timely feedback.
3. Meet the Diverse Needs of Every Learner
o Leverage individual strengths for academic, social, and emotional growth.
o Create multiple pathways to learn and demonstrate learning.
o Promote learner agency with goal‑oriented feedback and opportunities for self‑directed learning.
o Scaffold instruction and feedback through modeling, grouping, conferring, sequencing, timely feedback, sound assessment, and practice opportunities.
o Collaborate with content specialists (Advanced Learner Specialist, Special Education Teacher, English Learner Teacher) to plan inclusive instruction.
4. Professional Responsibilities
o Reflect on lessons with evidence‑based analysis and constructive suggestions.
o Maintain accurate, honest assessment records within timelines.
o Partner with families, respecting cultural elements, and invite participation in instructional programs.
o Engage in school‑wide and district events and improvement projects.
o Pursue professional learning and contribute to the profession aligned with building and district goals.
o Demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and ethical conduct.
o Comply with state laws, district policies, and community expectations.
o Maintain positive collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders to support student excellence.
o Ensure punctual and regular attendance.


Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a core subject area with coursework that leads to licensure in the relevant content area at an appropriate age level.


Physical Attributes

Job requires sitting, standing (up to 6–8 hours), walking, talking, hearing, operating a computer and handheld learning devices, reaching with hands and arms, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 10 pounds.


Certificates and Licenses

Must hold or be eligible for a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license for the taught content area. Short‑term substitute licenses issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction are accepted for summer school.
