Position Summary
ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with its different business areas, is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. The internship provides a six‑month opportunity with a multidisciplinary team at the Sensing and Analytics group of ABB. During this internship, you will work on different aspects of a high‑precision laser‑based gas sensing system, focusing on sample handling and conditioning, laser spectroscopy, and sensor technology, using top‑performance laser analyzers for high‑demand industrial applications.
Responsibilities
* Testing and working on trace‑level gas handling and conditioning system in the laboratory
* Developing sensing technologies for detection of trace‑level gases
* Data collection, analysis and interpretation of results
* Review of academic literature
* Regular reporting and contribution to decision‑making in elaboration of potential solutions
Qualifications
* You currently pursue a degree (enrollment to 5th semester or higher is essential) in Physics, Photonics, Optoelectronics, Chemical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering
* You are interested in the following fields: Laser spectroscopy, laser physics, optics, sensor technology, sample handling and conditioning, signal processing, data analysis
* You have experience with Matlab and Python
* You are willing to learn and ready to handle new research topics
* You are self‑motivated and have a practical approach
* You are able to think conceptually and express ideas clearly and convincingly
* You are at ease communicating in English

Non‑EU/EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from your university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part of your studies, is required for the visa application.
