Project Controller
The Project Controller provides strategic financial governance and operational oversight for construction projects, ensuring disciplined cost management, compliance, and adherence to organizational standards. This role leads Cost Per Passing (CPP) audits, evaluates and optimizes Bills of Materials (BOMs), and directs corrective actions to maintain budget integrity and operational efficiency. The Project Controller owns the development and administration of project controls processes—including SOP management, financial documentation oversight, invoice validation, and work order auditing—while exercising independent judgment in applying policies, analyzing financial impacts, and supporting decision‑making across cross‑functional teams. Through comprehensive reporting, forecasting, and reconciliation activities, the role delivers critical insights that guide project planning, resource allocation, and overall financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead audits and compliance on Cost Per Passings
* Provide strategic leadership over CPP audits and compliance activities, ensuring alignment with organizational financial standards and operational objectives.
* Analyze and evaluate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to determine appropriate labor rates, exercising independent judgment to optimize cost structures and update financial models accordingly.
* Monitor and enforce Outside Plant (OSP) performance against established CPP thresholds, identifying variances, assessing root causes, and directing corrective actions.
* Oversee project financial performance, ensuring projects remain within approved budgets and holding cross‑functional teams accountable for timely and accurate submission of Project Revision Notices (PRNs) or other required financial documentation.
Process Documentation Management
* Create, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
* Distribute updated processes regularly to relevant stakeholders and ensure version control.
Invoice Control for Construction
* Review and ensure invoices are accurately coded to the correct work orders.
* Track invoice status and resolve coding discrepancies promptly.
Bill of Materials (BOM) Review and Maintenance
\Verify and maintain BOM accuracy for construction projects.
1. Coordinate updates with procurement and project teams.
Requisition Support
* Assist the Construction team with preparing and submitting requisitions for materials and services.
* Monitor requisition approvals and delivery timelines.
Work Order Auditing
* Audit work orders for compliance with project standards and financial accuracy.
* Identify and report variances or irregularities to project leadership.
Financial Reporting
* Prepare and distribute regular reports on project financials, including cost tracking, budget performance, and forecasts.
* Support month‑end and project closeout financial reconciliations.
Requirements
Qualifications
* College education or equivalent work experience in project controls, construction, or related field.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement.
* Advanced financial analysis or project controls experience.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
Preferred Skills
* Experience with Workday, Site Tracker, Excel, and process documentation tools.
* Familiarity with Power BI for reporting and analytics.
* Knowledge of construction workflows and financial coding practices.
