Overview
Development Engineer - Mechatronics at VAT Group AG, located in Haag, St. Gallen, CH. This role is within the Semiconductor Solutions Group (SSG) – Mechatronics Unit, combining mechanics, electronics, control systems and software to design, develop and improve smart systems/machines.
We value hands-on, proactive engineers with strong communication skills and substantial Mechatronics/semiconductor experience who can take ownership of complex projects and product development.
Responsibilities
* Design and development of cutting-edge mechatronic systems and products
* Design, dimension, and commission stepper, BLDC, and servo motor solutions
* PLC control systems: select and configure PLCs, I/O modules, sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces
* Program PLCs for process and motion control, as well as system diagnostics, using structured programming languages
* Partner with interdisciplinary teams to bring complex system solutions to life
* Define and set up test environments to verify and validate products
* Create and maintain clear technical documentation across the development lifecycle
* Provide expert guidance during product initialization and deliver second-level technical assistance when needed
Your Competencies / Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field
* Minimum of 3 years in developing mechatronic systems, including drive technologies and sensor integration
* Strong knowledge of PLC hardware integration (I/O modules, sensors, actuators, industrial communication protocols)
* Proficient in PLC software development, including structured programming, motion control, and system diagnostics
* Systematic, proactive, hands-on, and focused on delivering results efficiently
* Fluent in English; basic German skills are a plus
