The SAGE Mission
SAGE is creating a satellite platform that provides a testbed for multiple payloads in topics of biological research, computing and communications. With space exploration being more prominent than ever, it is crucial to better understand the effects of milli- and microgravity as found in low Earth orbit (LEO) on the aging of the human body on a cellular level.
The Position
The On-Board Computer (OBC) serves as the brain of the SAGE CubeSat. It is developed in-house and powered by two microcontrollers in a redundancy circuit. The OBC coordinates all subsystems, schedules their tasks, and manages system modes based on available power and overall system health.
In addition, the OBC acts as the central data hub of the satellite. It logs system and flight data, stores experimental data, and provides this data to the communication subsystem for downlink to Earth.
Your tasks will include:
* Develop the software for the OBC controlling the satellite (low level driver work, realtime scheduling of tasks)
* Develop testing infrastructure for hardware in the loop testing on the FlatSat
* Design the internal architecture of the OBC
What you should bring:
* Project experience using C, Python
* Currently in the 5th semester or later of a BSc, or MSc
* Availability of ~10 hours per week
* EE understanding of basic concepts
Nice to have:
* Experience in DBMS with replication/distributed locking
* Background knowledge of Integrated Circuit working theory
* Teaching spirit
Time Commitment: ~10 hours per week
Team Commitment: at least two semesters
