Junior Local Communications Officer (SR-ECO-LC-2026-3-GRAE)

Full‑time

Are you passionate about engaging the general public in science and technology? Do you enjoy combining communication, editorial work and event organisation? Join the CERN Local Outreach team as a communications officer to engage with local audiences! CERN has an opening for an Early Career Graduate for a Junior Local Communications Officer and Events Coordinator in the Local Outreach (LO) section in the Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group in the Stakeholders Relations (SR) sector.


Your responsibilities

* Write engaging, concise and accessible texts in both CERN's official languages (French and English) for CERN websites (voisins.cern, visit.cern) and newsletters, and external communication channels (local city magazines, websites, newsletters, etc.).
* Contribute to the development and the coordination of CERN's public events season.
* Contribute to the organisation of public events at CERN and in the local region, contributing to all aspects of event delivery, including logistics, infrastructure, budget follow‑up, contracts, guest transportation and accommodation, ticketing, flow control, security, promotion, satisfaction surveys and data privacy.
* Develop and coordinate in collaboration with the Local Outreach team special activities within major science and outreach events.
* Experience in local communication and event organisation.
* Experience in stage management and in science communication to diverse audiences is an asset.
* Experience with content management systems.
* Familiarity with the educational and cultural environment of the Greater Geneva area is an advantage.


Skills

* Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new concepts and environments.
* Strong team spirit and ability to work in a large international organisation.
* Excellent communication, presentation, planning and writing skills, with the ability to adapt messages to different audiences.
* Spoken and written both English and French.
* By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Science Communication, Events Management (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
* You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
* Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
* Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite


This position involves

* Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
