Summary
Are you passionate about advancing the future of clean energy and pioneering nuclear-based technologies? We are seeking a highly motivated Nuclear Chemist to join our multidisciplinary team, where you will play a key role in research, development, and innovation at the intersection of nuclear chemistry, energy production, and radiochemistry.
About us
Transmutex is a Geneva-based start-up founded in 2019. We aim at reinventing nuclear energy by designing START to optimize the transmutation of long‑lived nuclear waste. The innovative combination of particle accelerators and fuel, based on existing long‑lived radioactive waste, will let us develop energy processes that will be intrinsically safe, will reduce the stockpile of long‑lived waste, are resistant to proliferation, and will be cost competitive.
Main responsibilities
Conduct cutting‑edge research and experiments in nuclear chemistry with applications in molten salt‑based separation of transuranic isotopes.
Analyse nuclear materials, evaluating their properties, potential applications, and environmental impact.
Work on nuclear electrorefining and define and verify methods for separation of nuclear heavy metal isotopes for a future reprocessing plant.
Develop and optimise nuclear‑ and radiochemistry‑based technologies in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams for reprocessing.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and radiation protection regulations while maintaining a safe working environment.
Oversee the production and chemical separation of radionuclides, including automation and engineering implementation of radiochemical processes.
Establish, develop and maintain infrastructure for radionuclide production and laboratory operations.
Manage and organise the radiochemical laboratory, ensuring reliability of equipment and support of infrastructure.
Provide support for preclinical and clinical studies linked to radionuclide applications.
Prepare technical reports, documentation and presentations to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in nuclear chemistry, radiochemistry and related technologies.
Qualifications and professional achievements
Ph.D. in Nuclear Chemistry, Radiochemistry, or related field (or equivalent academic/technical background).
5+ years experience in nuclear or radiochemistry research, ideally with laboratory and industrial applications.
Skills on electro‑chemistry (e.g. used to ANSYS electrochemistry module or similar).
Experience on molten salt technology and electrorefining are advantageous.
Solid understanding of nuclear safety, radiation protection (level B or C an advantage), and environmental standards.
Proficiency with analytical techniques, instrumentation and laboratory IT systems.
Strong problem‑solving skills, flexibility and motivation for research‑driven projects.
Organisational skills to manage laboratory operations and multiple projects.
Must have excellent knowledge of English and German (written and spoken).
Willingness to work responsibly in environments with ionising radiation.
