Job Description
The Innovative Health (IH) Organization has been created to drive meaningful impact to participant health and wellbeing by reinventing the clinical trial experience. The Innovative Health organization connects teams across development to novel capabilities and solutions, unleashing the potential of innovation to drive broader access to innovative medicines, and enriching the healthcare experience for all.
The IH team is seeking an innovation leader who will be a forward‑thinker, able to imagine and shape the future of clinical research and design and execute innovation demonstration projects to prepare J&J for this future. The candidate will understand the clinical research environment and a track record of successfully initiating and driving projects to completion. The candidate must be comfortable exploring new spaces where there is little or no experience or existing guidelines to follow. A global mindset with proven ability to partner cross‑culturally and cross‑functionally, to develop strong collaborations and to inspire trust across the organization and at all levels is essential.
The IH department reports into Global Development’s (GD) Business Growth, Innovation and Advocacy (BGIA) department and is dedicated to driving innovation into the clinical operating model to make clinical development faster and better for patients, investigators, Janssen, and the industry at large. IH’s approach is to learn through doing: we design and conduct innovation projects that generate knowledge about novel operational models, methods and solutions. Once proven valuable and feasible, we embed new operational approaches and technologies into Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines R&D with the goals of improving patient and site experiences, expediting drug development, and reducing overall costs. Our success comes by way of our entrepreneurial culture and teamwork.
Principal Responsibilities
* Design and execute agile innovation demonstration projects to evaluate effectiveness, viability and return on investment. These projects will identify and test novel approaches, processes, technologies and best practices that will create value for patients, have the potential to optimize trial recruitment, reduce trial set up and execution cycle times, and/or reduce cost.
* Collaborate with internal and external cross‑functional teams to validate hypotheses.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to execute the projects, develop project plans, set milestones, and monitor progress to ensure timely evaluation and decision making for launch.
* Generate conclusive results to support the business case for launch or adoption of these new methods.
* Proactively identify potential roadblocks and take a solutions‑driven approach for complex and undefined projects that may not be addressed by existing policies, procedures, or protocols.
* Provide leadership and project management for multiple initiatives simultaneously. Support IH Launch, with change management to ensure successful implementation in the broader organization.
Principal Relationships
* Key internal collaboration partners include study teams, the therapeutic area & clinical development teams, functional and data science teams across Janssen.
* Primary interfaces: GD Delivery Units, IH LT, as well as other business functions including GRA, Legal, Procurement, Finance, IT, Communications.
* Collaborating with leading external peer organizations, vendor partners and academic institutions.
Education and Experience Requirements
* A Bachelors’ degree is required; Master’s degree/Graduate degree in business or life sciences is highly preferred.
* A minimum of 4 or more years of work experience (industry or academia) is required, as well as a minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical development environment (pharmaceutical, medical devices, CRO or other clinical development service organization).
