Job DescriptionJoin our dynamic and international Global Application Engineering team as an Application Engineer for Competitive Analysis, where your expertise will directly shape the future of GNSS positioning technology. In this impactful role, you will conduct technical research and lead competitive analysis activities that guide the improvement and development of next-generation products for diverse use cases and markets worldwide.
By providing critical technical insights into competitive threats and customer value propositions, you will influence strategic product decisions and ensure our solutions remain at the forefront of the industry. You will define screening and benchmarking approaches, develop robust technical proof points, and contribute to positioning our products as market leaders.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with Product Strategy, Research & Development, and Product Quality teams, as well as to engage with colleagues in our regional offices around the globe. Your contributions will span multiple departments and regions, providing you with broad exposure and the chance to see the tangible impact of your work.
To succeed in this role, you bring a solid understanding of embedded system design, covering both hardware and software perspectives, along with a strong appreciation of end-user use cases. You are passionate and curious about learning new technologies, with an analytical mindset that drives you to extract critical competitive benchmarking data and translate it into actionable insights for the business.
This role can be located in Tampere or Espoo.
Your Responsibilities
1. Manage and execute Competitive Analysis technical activities within the Application Engineering team
2. Continuously monitor and analyse market trends and competitor products, including benchmarks, cross-reference lists, and datasheets
3. Maintain the overview of the technical competitive landscape in collaboration with Product Strategy
4. Define effective screening methodologies for competitive threats and provide associated effort estimates and planning
5. Guide and execute technical tasks to formulate clear, data-driven proof points that support strategic product decisions
6. Define and support benchmark KPIs, creating detailed and concise technical reports for internal stakeholders
7. Develop, operate, and maintain GNSS test setups tailored to specific analysis needs, while also working with existing test frameworks to ensure efficient and reliable benchmarking environments
8. Develop and maintain analysis tools for processing test data, enabling extraction of critical KPIs and insights
9. Conduct Bill of Materials (BoM) analyses and cost estimations
10. Deep dive into GNSS technology, including detailed system architecture aspects, to identify and analyse potential relevant performance deltas and opportunities for product enhancements
11. High level coordination and support of regional data collection campaigns
Your Skills and Experience
12. Master or Bachelor's, Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science or equivalent title
13. Hardware design experience (analog, RF, digital)
14. Data processing and analysis
15. Scripting experience (Python, Matlab, Perl)
16. Understanding of GNSS technology, typical solution architectures and expected behavior of components
17. Able to operate advanced GNSS test equipment (simulators, record and replay devices, RF signal generators), develop and maintain a test site
18. Good practical electronic skills such as soldering and using basic laboratory equipment
19. Demonstrated work initiative as a self-starter with time management and prioritization skills, with ability to follow up actions to closure
20. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
21. Fluent in English, other European or APAC languages are a plus
