About the role
BC is the largest cocoa bean grinder in the world. The Cocoa Trader is part of the sourcing team which sources all the exported cocoa beans for the group. The BCS trading book serves the European factory needs, as well the region Asia and US. The Cocoa Trader will have a dedicated role in the team with responsibilities for contracting, supplier management, quality negotiations, and making sure the contracts are executed. Close coordination with the logistics department is a must, but most of all the trader needs to work as a sourcing team. The Cocoa Trader makes sure the information for the designated part of the market is shared but should also be aware of what is happening in the other regions. There is a high level of independence and responsibility but in the end, it is a team effort.
Key Responsibilities include
1. Develop a close relationship with the supplier in the designated sourcing regions
2. Be fully aware of the local issue in this part of the market
3. Report on a regular basis the team on what is going on
4. Develop with the Sourcing director the sourcing strategy for the region
5. Cooperate in the team to achieve the teams target around stock management
6. Be creative in the sourcing conditions, low stock but availability is always a must
7. Take all the administrative task which comes with a trading and hedge book
8. Understand and steer the derivatives team in using the futures are hedging tool
9. Negotiate and settle with your supplier’s quality claims
10. Work very close with logistics in execution of the contracts
11. Understand the company structure and factory set-up
12. Be aware of the factory needs and requirement, you are the subject matter expert for your origin(s)
13. You will possible be assigned a buying region or a finance subject, be fully in charge of these matters
14. Be o.k. with regular updates in the team and towards management via presentations
About you
15. Bachelor’s degree
16. 2-5 years of commercial experience with a preference for soft commodities
17. Commodity trading background and knowledge of soft commodity market is a prerequisite
18. Trading, profit-driven minded
19. English fluent, French a plus
20. Strong analytical skills, good with numbers with a high resistance to stress
21. Ability to see the strategic picture for the region but have eye for details
22. Be a proven team player and at the same time not shy of working independently
23. Excited to have responsibilities in a high value market
24. Excellent communication skills
25. Multi-stakeholder management skills
26. A strong sense for risk management and disciplined
27. Occasional travel requirement s towards the origin
