Position Summary
The Particle Design team at Roche is dedicated to defining and controlling the solid state attributes required for optimal drug product quality and manufacturing. We seek an experienced leader to lead this team within the Synthetic Molecules Pharmaceutical & Solid State Development organization.
Responsibilities
* Lead and develop a high‑performing team of approximately 20 employees; hire, mentor, and develop team members.
* Shape strategic direction as a member of the PTDC‑P Leadership Team and PTDC‑eLT; develop and implement strategies for the section and organization.
* Ensure development, scale‑up, and successful commercialization of robust, phase‑appropriate manufacturing processes for the finishing step (e.g., crystallization, isolation, milling) of Roche’s synthetic molecule drug substance portfolio.
* Scout and deploy innovative, state‑of‑the‑art methodologies in crystallization and co‑processing to optimize solid‑state properties.
* Coach team members in scientific and technical discussions with internal teams (RED project teams, synthetic chemists, analytical scientists, formulation scientists) to plan, execute, and resolve project‑related challenges and develop sound control strategies.
* Organize internal and external resources for efficient management of the project portfolio; coordinate work processes and scope with partners and stakeholders within the TDT.
* Promote collaboration of the Solid State Science group with internal and external clients and partners, including REDs, commercial manufacturing, CMO site management, Regulatory Affairs, and PTDC.
* Ensure modern equipment standards and system support in laboratories; manage proactive resource planning, create credit applications, and oversee capital investments for the section.
* Adhere to Roche policies, procedures, and standards for Safety, Health, and Environmental Protection (SHE).
Qualifications
* Ph.D. in organic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, material sciences, or related fields.
* More than 10 years of experience in CMC development with increasing responsibility.
* In‑depth knowledge of crystallization, milling, and finishing steps for classical and non‑classical synthetic molecules (including oligonucleotides and peptides) preferred.
* Strategic thinker with a track record of developing and implementing strategies to enhance team and departmental performance.
* Strong team player, proven talent‑management experience (hiring, performance evaluation, development).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
* Experience managing laboratory operations, equipment standards, and process transfer.
* Proficient in budget and resource planning, capital investment management, and credit application creation.
