Summary
This class is accountable for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students; providing an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student.
Qualifications
* Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
* Valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate/endorsement(s) 015 English, 7–12. May also require current Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
* Annual background investigation may be conducted.
* Completion of all State CEU requirements for re-certification.
* Knowledge of core curriculum areas for English instruction.
* Knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods, best practices, student development and classroom management techniques.
* Knowledge of District curriculum, Board of Education policies, instructional technologies and learner outcomes.
* Knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts; PBIS and SRBI.
* Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills.
* Human relations and conflict management skills.
* Skill in classroom management, presentation, organization, report development, technology integration, and multi‑tasking.
* Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations and apply PBIS/SRBI principles.
* Ability to communicate with students, parents, staff, administrators and community members from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to evaluate student performance and present evaluations to foster higher achievement.
* Ability to plan and implement lesson plans aligned with District and school goals and student needs.
* Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
* Ability to work cooperatively with administrators, colleagues and community stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
* Develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and maintain order in a fair manner.
* Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
* Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community.
* Create an inclusive classroom environment that enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
* Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet needs of all students.
* Diagnose learning disabilities, coordinate with central staff, and provide input to student IEPs.
* Establish and communicate clear learning objectives consistent with District curriculum and student growth.
* Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and policy.
* Make provision for being available to students and parents outside instructional hours under reasonable terms.
* Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
* Monitor appropriate use of equipment, materials and facilities.
* Teach assigned classes consistently and prepare lessons thoroughly.
* Participate in school management and share responsibility for the total school program.
* Plan engaging learning experiences that meet students’ interests and abilities.
* Supervise paraprofessionals and classroom assistants.
* Use instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques that motivate students.
* Provide instructional programs for students with disabilities.
* Supervise students in various school‑related settings; ensure safety precautions.
* Attend school meetings, programs and activities outside instructional time as required.
* Perform related work as required.
Physical and Working Conditions
Employees must possess adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity, and maintain fitness to perform the duties. Physical examination may be required.
