Bus Driver (Full-Time)
Job Description: School of the Osage, in partnership with our students, families, and community, will equip all learners to reach their maximum potential for a lifetime of success.
Type of Position: Non Certified
Performance Expectations: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
1. Meet age requirements: At least twenty-one (21) and under seventy (70). A person may be allowed to drive a bus after July 1 following their seventieth birthday, but only if they can pass an annual medical and written examination.
2. Obtain a Missouri Commercial Driver’s License, Class B or higher, and a Missouri school bus operator’s permit.
3. Maintain good physical and mental health, free from communicable diseases, with normal use of both arms, hands, legs, and feet. Vision shall be at least 20/20 in one eye with 20/40 in the other, or 20/30 in both, with correction if necessary. Drivers must distinguish red, green, and yellow. Hearing must be adequate for normal conversation. An annual physical examination by a licensed physician is required, with a signed certificate submitted to the employer.
4. Report to work neat and clean.
5. Avoid tobacco use in the bus.
6. Refrain from driving under the influence of intoxicants, narcotics, or drugs.
7. Transport students safely and efficiently.
8. Operate school vehicles according to state laws, regulations, Missouri Motor Vehicle Laws, and School of the Osage rules, including directives from the Director of Transportation and “Driver Operation Procedures”.
9. Perform daily routine checks of maintenance and emergency items such as brakes, lights, tires, oil, belts, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
10. Report maintenance issues promptly.
11. Complete and submit reports on time, with driver’s name attached.
12. Keep the bus interior and exterior clean and unobstructed.
13. Maintain order and discipline during student transportation, handle minor issues, and report infractions requiring further intervention.
14. Be courteous to riders and parents.
15. Be rested and free from fatigue.
16. Arrive on time at scheduled stops.
17. Attend at least one driver’s training session annually.
18. Report any bus accidents immediately and remain with the bus during investigations.
Physical Demands
The physical demands include sitting for long periods, occasional walking and standing, frequent bending and twisting, repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements, and occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds. Visual and depth perception skills are required.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience.
