To grow and strengthen our Editorial team at the Headquarter of MDPI, we are looking for recent graduates who are eager to stay engaged with academia and contribute to making scientific research widely accessible by helping researchers worldwide publish their latest results. The position of Assistant Editor is a full-time and permanent position at our city center office in Basel, Switzerland. As part of our commitment to fostering a collaborative team environment, this role requires working fully on-site.

Tasks & Responsibilities
1. Support the editorial process for academic research journals in your domain of expertise;
2. Organize the peer review process for submitted manuscripts and coordinate editorial decisions;
3. Be in charge of formatting manuscripts according to our in-house standards;
4. Handle email communication between all parties involved in the publication process;
5. Ensure that scholarly articles are accurately edited and published with a high degree of consistency and within the deadlines;
6. Serve as key point of contact between the Editorial Office and external authors and readers.
Upon completing editorial training and qualification, you will participate in tasks beyond routine editorial activities, including the onboarding of new Editorial Board members, checking and updating the journal website and managing its social media accounts, identifying and contacting conferences for potential sponsorship, and more.

Requirements
A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in one of the following fields:
Biotechnology, Industrial Microbiology, Bioprocess Engineering, Food & Beverage Science.
Other related fields may also be considered depending on relevance.
7. Excellent written and spoken English skills, fluent German would be plus;
8. Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
9. Passion for scientific research and academic publishing.
10. Team player with the capability to work in a dynamic, international environment;
11. Detail-oriented with the capacity to see the big picture;
12. Strong organizational and time management skills;
13. Very good communication and coordination skills;
14. Professional experience with scholarship publishing is an advantage;
15. Experience in creating presentations and writing is an asset;
