Location: Winterthur, Switzerland

About Rheonics
Rheonics develops cutting‑edge sensor technology for industrial process automation. We offer a collaborative environment where contributions are valued and teams solve real industrial problems.

Job Description
Rheonics R&D Center is looking for an Electronics R&D Operations Engineer to strengthen our team.

The role focuses on hands‑on support of electronics R&D operations, laboratory infrastructure, experimental setups, prototype bring‑up, sensor testing, and electronics production support. You will work with advanced industrial sensor systems used for fluid consistency measurements, including viscosity and density monitoring.

This position combines practical electronics work, lab infrastructure development, experiment execution, prototype bring‑up, and electronics production support. You will help build and maintain test jigs, test PCBs, wiring assemblies, sensor setups, and firmware update procedures, while running R&D experiments and supporting production troubleshooting for new electronics.

You will collaborate closely with experts in electronics, firmware, mechanics, physics, and production to support robust industrial sensor development, production readiness, and reliable product deployment.

This position is aimed at a hands‑on engineer or senior technician with strong practical electronics experience.

Responsibilities

Test infrastructure and lab setup: Build, modify, and maintain electronics test jigs, fixtures, wiring harnesses, adapters, simple test PCBs, and lab setups.

Experimental testbed support: Support the design, bring‑up, and improvement of testbeds, adapter boards, connector boards, and lab fixtures for industrial sensor development, R&D experiments, and validation.

Electronics assembly and troubleshooting: Assemble, solder, repair, and troubleshoot prototype electronics, cables, connectors, and sensor‑related hardware using standard lab equipment.

R&D experiments and sensor testing: Prepare, run, and document experiments, sensor tests, and industrial validation setups.

Production support: Assist with firmware updates, device configuration, test preparation, troubleshooting, and transfer of R&D test methods into repeatable production procedures.

Required Qualifications

Education: Completed apprenticeship as an Electronics Technician or comparable practical experience in electronics design, assembly, or operation. Further education such as Technician HF, FH / University of Applied Sciences, or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (BSc/MSc) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is an advantage.

Hands‑on electronics and lab work: Experience with electronics assembly, wiring, soldering, connectors, and prototype modification.

Basic PCB work: Experience creating, modifying, reviewing simple connector boards, adapter boards, test PCBs; KiCad experience is preferred.

Test infrastructure: Practical experience building or maintaining test fixtures, experimental testbeds, sensor setups, or production‑support equipment.

Technical understanding: Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation; basic understanding of analog/digital electronics, sensors, and measurement set‑ups.

Measurement and debugging: Experience with basic electronics measurements using multimeters and bench power supplies.

Experiment execution: Experience running structured experiments, collecting measurement data, documenting set‑ups, and reporting results.

Firmware and device support: Ability to follow firmware flashing and device configuration procedures for new electronics.

Language: Working knowledge of English; German is an advantage.

Work authorization: EU/EFTA citizenship or valid authorization to work in Switzerland.

Desired Skills

Industrial sensors and instrumentation: Experience with industrial sensors, process automation, instrumentation, or measurement systems.

Embedded devices: Experience with embedded devices or firmware update workflows.

Test tooling and data collection: Experience with Python, MATLAB, or other tools for testing, data collection, or lab automation.

Mechanical fixture work: Basic mechanical skills for building fixtures, brackets, mounts, enclosures, or 3D‑printed test parts.

Additional Information
This is a full‑time, on‑site position in Winterthur. Remote work is not available.

The role is highly practical and lab‑oriented. It is best suited for someone who enjoys building, modifying, testing, troubleshooting, and improving real electronics systems.
