Credit risk senior analyst

Credit Risk Management (CRM) is an independent group under the direction of the Chief Credit Officer (CCO), who reports to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), responsible for the enterprise-wide credit risk oversight at Manulife. CRM has the mandate to promote a culture of risk awareness across all levels of the organization and has the responsibility to establish and maintain Manulife’s credit risk management framework. This position will play a key role in the Credit Risk Management group’s mandate of Portfolio Oversight of the Manulife General Account by way of Portfolio Stress Testing and Independent Credit Review of various Investment desks.

Positional Responsibilities:

1. Provide oversight of the Manulife Bonds, Commercial Mortgages and Alternative Investments portfolio through stress testing exercise using various tools (Risk Frontier, Portfolio Studio, etc.) used by the company.

2. Perform what-if analysis, multi-factor stress tests and reverse stress tests to identify credit rating migration, credit/expected losses, earnings/reserve impacts and capital requirements under various stress macroeconomic conditions.

3. Prepare spreadsheets, reports and power-point presentations. Present stress test results and findings to Senior Management, including Credit Committee.

4. Perform detailed credit analysis for selected samples credit from various industry sectors and opine on a) the appropriateness of the assigned credit rating, b) the adequacy of the risk and credit analysis included in the review, and c) any emerging risks inherent in the credit.

5. Draft Credit Review Summary reports to include CRM’s detailed findings/issues/ observations related to the completed Credit Reviews to be submitted to the relevant Investments Desk and to Credit Committee.

6. Prepare independent research reports for Credit Committee and Senior Management on topical issues and trends, assessing their impact on Manulife’s credit portfolio.

7. Lead the CRM (Alternative Long Duration Assets) risk rating tool/framework process to provide granularity on the degree of risk present in individual ALDA investment assets.

8. Prepare detail ALDA performance tracking and monitoring reports for the Senior Management

9. Maintain the ALDA performance tracking model and make changes/suggest improvements as necessary.

10. Assist with the credit analysis of reinsurance counterparties as needed and in managing the risk of reinsurance exposures.

Required Qualifications:

11. Minimum 4-5 years of experience in credit risk analysis, underwriting or adjudication of corporate credit/debt products in a large financial institution; solid experience in Corporate Credit Portfolio Management will also be considered

12. Excellent data analysis skills using large spreadsheets; ability to summarize a large amount of data into concise reports and presentations for senior management

13. Intermediate programming language and coding skills (VBA, Python, R Studio, etc.) required

14. Strong communication skills (oral and written), as well as solid presentation skills

15. Collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills

16. High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) applications
