Beschreibung

Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.


Essential Duties

* Assists in administration of the maintenance section.
* Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
* Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
* Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
* Operates light and heavy equipment.
* Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.
* Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
* Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
* Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

* Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
* Experience: 5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

* Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
* Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an "N" endorsement from date of application.

* The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
* Methods and procedures involving storage & transport of hazardous materials
* Design, testing and quality control of materials used in the construction and maintenance of highways and related structures
* Applicable surveying procedures, standards, and instruments
* Incident management procedures
* Inventory/stock control procedures
* Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
* Maintenance contract inspection procedures
* Operating light and heavy highway equipment
* Performing calculations to include material and labor estimates, expenses, technical survey data and engineering calculations
* Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
* Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment
* Prioritizing and organizing work assignments
* Interpreting applicable information
* Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
* Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

* Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
* Works frequently in small/crawl spaces; manholes; areas that can cause claustrophobia

* Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
* Sitting - prolonged periods of time
* Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc
* Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
* Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist
* Kneeling-bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s)
* Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
* Crawling-moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet
* Standing-prolonged periods of time
* Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
* Grasping-applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm
* Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
* Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
* Close Visual Acuity-work includes visual inspection of small defects/parts
* Close Visual Acuity-using measurement devices; and assembly or fabrication parts
* Visual Acuity-operate machines, such as drill presses, power saws, and mills
* Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment
* Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures

* This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
* Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
o Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, at 40.151(e) – does not authorize “medical marijuana” under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.
* Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
