The Hagerbach Test Gallery Ltd. (VSH) – THE Underground Future Lab in Flums (SG) is since January 2025 recognized as Research Infrastructure of National Importance. With a total length of over 5 km, the underground facility inside the mountain offers a variety of tunnels and caverns, for research and development purposes, for training and education as well as for special events in unique surroundings and serves as a model for innovative concepts in the use of underground spaces for sustainable solutions in modern cities, space habitats, complex infrastructures and net-zero construction sites.
To strengthen our team in Flums (SG) we are looking for you as
Head of Research Infrastructure (80%-100%)
Your tasks
Division Management Research&Innovation / Research Infrastructure of National Importance: strategic and operational development and expansion; long-term positioning; P&L responsibility for the Research & Innovation division; oversight and further development of the research infrastructure/platform
Business development and project acquisition (e.g. INNOSUISSE, SNSF, EU Horizon, Euresearch, …) in the main research areas: Energy, Space Habitats & Safety, Smart City and Heavy Construction & Operations Underground - in particular, building an in-house interdisciplinary research team
Evaluation and implementation of strategic infrastructure investments at VSH in the framework of the governmental recognition
Project management of the different research activities - Initiating, applying for, and supporting science-based research projects in collaboration with industry and academia
First contact for Researchers, industrial partners, Start-Ups and Innovation Leaders - to successfully bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research and market-ready commercialization
Building a strong network within the Swiss and international innovation ecosystem
Structuring and coordination of cross-divisional activities
Your profile
Academic education in engineering or natural sciences with own research portfolio optimally matching the Underground Future Lab focus areas – and having the interest entering new research fields
Relevant experience in the research and technology transfer sector, e.g. with Spin-Off and Start-Up companies, international Business Development with business-related background
A strong and proven entrepreneurial drive, hands-on approach to transforming complex technical issues into successful pioneering projects
Leadership skills and experience in managing teams, employees, and project partners from academic and industrial backgrounds, and integrating them into a larger organization
Familiar with domestic and international Research Cooperations and with INNOSUISSE
Expert language skills in English and German, others an advantage
Adept and structured in the use of modern communication tools (media technology, social media, collaborative working)
