About the role
BC is the largest cocoa bean grinder in the world. The Cocoa Trader is part of the sourcing team which sources all the exported cocoa beans for the group. The BCS trading book serves the European factory needs, as well as the region Asia and US. The Cocoa Trader will have a dedicated role in the team with responsibilities for contracting, supplier management, quality negotiations, and ensuring contracts are executed. Close coordination with the logistics department is a must, but most of all the trader needs to work as a sourcing team. The Cocoa Trader ensures information for the designated part of the market is shared but stays aware of what is happening in other regions. There is a high level of independence and responsibility, but in the end, it is a team effort.
Responsibilities
* Develop a close relationship with the supplier in the designated sourcing regions
* Be fully aware of the local issues in this part of the market
* Report regularly to the team on what is going on
* Develop with the Sourcing director the sourcing strategy for the region
* Cooperate in the team to achieve the team\'s target around stock management
* Be creative in the sourcing conditions, low stock but availability is always a must
* Take all the administrative tasks that come with a trading and hedge book
* Understand and steer the derivatives team in using futures as hedging tools
* Negotiate and settle with suppliers on quality claims
* Work closely with logistics in execution of the contracts
* Understand the company structure and factory setup
* Be aware of factory needs and requirements; you are the subject matter expert for your origin(s)
* You may be assigned a buying region or a finance subject; be fully in charge of these matters
* Be comfortable with regular updates in the team and towards management via presentations
About you
* 2-5 years of commercial experience with a preference for soft commodities
* Commodity trading background and knowledge of soft commodity markets is a prerequisite
* Trading, profit-driven mindset
* English fluent, French a plus
* Strong analytical skills, good with numbers, and high resilience to stress
* Ability to see the strategic picture for the region but have an eye for details
* Be a proven team player and at the same time not shy of working independently
* Excited to have responsibilities in a high-value market
* A strong sense for risk management and discipline
* Occasional travel requirements toward the origin
