Job Summary

The Student Services Coordinator serves as a strategic, site‑based leader responsible for ensuring high‑quality special education programming, compliance, and student support services at an assigned school site (Elementary, Middle, or High School). This role functions as a key operational partner to the Principal and Assistant Principal, supporting the daily systems, staffing, scheduling, and instructional structures necessary for students with disabilities to thrive. In addition to coordinating special education services and IEP implementation, the Coordinator plays a central role in the day‑to‑day functioning of the assigned site by supporting building operations, staff coaching, service delivery, and collaborative problem‑solving. This position is designed as a leadership pathway for individuals aspiring toward future roles such as Special Education Director, Assistant Principal, or other building‑level administrative positions.


Responsibilities


Special Education Program Leadership & Compliance

* Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of federal and state special education laws and regulations (IDEA, Section 504, ESSA).
* Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring student progress through the use of academic and behavioral data.
* Ensure compliance in service delivery, documentation, timelines, and due process procedures.
* Provide case management oversight and support to special education teachers and related service providers.
* Engage in open communication with VISTA leadership and staff to maintain program supports with fidelity.
* Maintain a culture of inclusivity for students, staff, and families.


Site‑Based Daily Operations & Administrative Partnership

* Serve as a daily operational leader at the assigned site in partnership with the Principal and Assistant Principal.
* Support building‑level systems including service alignment, staffing coverage, and program logistics.
* Collaborate with administrators to proactively problem‑solve student needs, staffing concerns, and site‑based programming challenges.
* Participate actively in site leadership meetings, student support meetings, and building events to maintain visibility and engagement within the school community.


Instructional Coaching & Staff Development

* Provide coaching, feedback, and support to special education teachers in instructional strategies, data collection, progress monitoring, and inclusive practices.
* Support paraeducator development through training, supervision, and ongoing coaching aligned with student needs, goals, and objectives.
* Facilitate professional development opportunities for staff related to special education programming, accommodations, and behavior support.
* Lead monthly paraeducator meetings and provide ongoing communication, training, and support.
* Conduct paraeducator evaluations in collaboration with site administrators as appropriate.


Collaboration & Family Partnership

* Facilitate strong communication between families, staff, administrators, and outside agencies to ensure a collaborative environment for student success.
* Support inclusive practices and integration of students with disabilities within general education settings.
* Partner with staff to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented effectively across classrooms and assessments.


Data‑Based Systems Improvement

* Collect, analyze, and interpret student and program‑level data to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
* Make recommendations for program enhancements and contribute to continuous improvement efforts at both the site and district levels.


Additional Leadership Responsibilities

* Attend weekly child study and problem‑solving meetings.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Special Services, site administrators, and district leadership.


Qualifications

* Master's degree in Special Education or related field (required).
* Director of Special Education or K‑12 Principal license (required upon hire).
* Minimum of five years of experience in the field of special education.
* Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to special education.
* Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
* Experience working with students with disabilities in various settings and grade levels.
* Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, staff, parents, and community members.
* Proficient in using technology for data collection, analysis, and communication purposes.
* Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse stakeholders.
* Knowledge of current trends and research in special education.


Core Skills – Special Education Coordinator

* IEP Management: Skilled in developing, implementing, and evaluating IEPs.
* Data‑Driven Practices: Uses academic and behavioral data to guide interventions and monitor progress.
* Inclusive Instructional Support: Coaches staff on inclusive strategies and differentiated instruction.
* Stakeholder Collaboration: Builds strong partnerships with families, staff, and administrators.
* Paraeducator Oversight: Trains, schedules, evaluates, and supports paraeducators.
* Resource & Program Coordination: Manages caseloads, schedules, and special education services.
* Professional Development: Designs and delivers training for teachers and support staff.
* Technology Integration: Utilizes platforms like CLEVER to support special education systems.
* Staff Support & Evaluation: Assists with teacher and paraeducator evaluations.
* Strategic Leadership: Advises administrators on best practices and program improvements.
