Director, Business Operations – Allschwil, Switzerland (also open in Beerse, Belgium; High Wycombe, United Kingdom; United States)
In the role of Director, Business Operations, you will sit within the DU and be accountable for establishing and continuously optimizing the business operations strategy to enable delivery of the portfolio. You will collaborate with the DU Senior Leadership Team, PADU SLT, Business Operations Leadership Team (BOLT), and Business Operations team members throughout Global Development to maintain global oversight of Business Operations Strategy, Metrics, Goals, Communication Strategy, Governance, Budget, and portfolio delivery risks.
Responsibilities
* Risk and Portfolio Management: Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate portfolio‑level and operational risks; develop and implement risk management processes and controls.
* Business Operations Strategy: Manage and coordinate strategy and initiatives to drive operational excellence across Delivery Operations, Trial Management, and Therapeutic/Disease Area Stronghold Delivery; align with enterprise‑wide improvements.
* Reporting and Analysis: Establish and lead DU business reviews, risk forums, and performance discussions; shape reporting frameworks and tools.
* Functional Budget and Resource Management: Oversee DU‑level planning and tracking of functional budgets, in partnership with Resource Management, Capacity Management, and Finance.
* Communication Strategy and Execution: Ensure consistent, timely communication within the DU and deliver DU‑specific content that supports broader Global Development communications.
* Operational Excellence: Provide guidance and tools to support continuous improvement initiatives; partner to drive harmonization, process maturity, and delivery effectiveness.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Establish key customer and stakeholder interfaces across the DU and align operational strategy with evolving needs.
* Team Management: Supervise and support team members within the Business Operations function; promote a culture of trust and professional growth.
* Process Improvement: Define and implement DU‑wide process optimization strategies; lead efforts to enhance operational workflows.
* Performance Management: Define and monitor KPIs and management systems to track delivery execution and ensure accountability.
* Strategic and Operational Support to PADU‑SLT: Contribute to planning, governance, and execution of cross‑functional initiatives that drive portfolio delivery.
* Problem Solving: Own initiatives and ad‑hoc projects that enable smooth, agile DU operations; act as a driver for change and results.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nursing, Pharmacy); advanced or master’s degree preferred.
* Experience: Minimum of 10years of clinical research experience in the pharmaceutical industry or CRO, including people‑management responsibilities.
* Expertise: Risk and portfolio management; drug development, clinical research operations, regulatory requirements (ICH‑GCP, HCC, etc.); project management; stakeholder management.
* Skills: Excellent communication and leadership; ability to foster team productivity; strong strategy development and execution; decision‑making and financial management.
* Adaptability: Flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment with a sense of urgency; experience transforming organizations in response to business needs.
* Travel: Can travel internationally or domestically up to 10‑20% of the time.
Preferred Skills
Experience in transforming organizations, effective issue resolution, and contingency planning for productivity and quality issues; ability to synthesize and evaluate data from various reports and sources; strong interpersonal skills.
