About Madrigal
Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a liver disease with high unmet medical need. Madrigal's medication, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), is a once-daily, oral, liver-directed THR-β agonist designed to target key underlying causes of MASH. Rezdiffra is the first and only medication approved by both the FDA and European Commission for the treatment of MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2 to F3). An ongoing Phase 3 outcomes trial is evaluating Rezdiffra for the treatment of compensated MASH cirrhosis (F4c).
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to join Madrigal as it develops its presence in Europe. The incumbent will oversee end-to-end procurement activities, ensure operational excellence while driving strategic value for the business. As a start-up environment this role requires hands-on purchase order and vendor management with broader responsibilities such as local RFP execution, supplier performance optimization, and compliance in a highly regulated pharma/biotech environment. The position requires strong organization and coordination skills to bring structure in a fast-paced environment. The position offers the opportunity to partner closely with local stakeholders and the Global Strategic Sourcing team while contributing to cost optimization, risk mitigation, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Purchase Order & Process Management
* Manage the full purchase order (PO) lifecycle, from creation to closure, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.
* Review and approve POs in alignment with company policies and delegated authority.
* Collaborate with Finance and Legal to resolve PO or vendor issues and implement process improvements.
* Identify opportunities to streamline the PO process, enhance efficiency, and reduce lead times.
* Support stakeholders with change orders, PO updates, and training on procurement procedures.
2. Vendor Management & Onboarding
* Lead the vendor onboarding process, ensuring compliance with company requirements and documentation standards.
* Maintain a robust vendor database with up-to-date contracts, contacts, and performance records.
* Conduct regular supplier performance reviews to ensure delivery against contractual terms and quality standards.
* Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, fostering long-term value creation.
3. Contracting & Risk Management
* Execute supplier contracts in compliance with company policies and signature authority guidelines.
* Partner with Legal and stakeholders to mitigate risk and ensure contractual alignment with business needs.
* Monitor adherence to procurement regulations, policies, and ethical standards.
4. Coupa System Leadership
* Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Coupa Procure-to-Pay process.
* Generate reports and analytics to provide insights on spend, supplier performance, and procurement trends.
* Deliver training and guidance to stakeholders on Coupa usage and best practices.
* Drive adoption of digital tools and optimize system functionality to support procurement excellence.
5. RFP & Strategic Sourcing
* Lead and support RFP processes, including drafting, evaluation, and vendor selection, in collaboration with local and global stakeholders.
* Provide data-driven recommendations to optimize sourcing decisions and supplier strategies.
* Contribute to category management and long-term sourcing strategies in alignment with global procurement goals.
6. Stakeholder Partnership & Business Support
* Serve as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders, ensuring procurement delivers value across functions.
* Support global procurement initiatives and collaborate with international colleagues to align practices and leverage synergies.
* Stay informed of industry regulations, market trends, and emerging risks to proactively address challenges.
Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration
* 5+ years of procurement experience in supporting indirect categories such as Marketing and G&A functions, ideally within the pharma/biotech industry.
* Strong analytical skills with experience managing and interpreting complex data sets.
* Proven track record in RFP execution and vendor management.
* Coupa Procure-to-Pay experience required.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and procurement systems; Smartsheet/DocuSign knowledge a plus.
* Willingness and ability to work independently and manage projects in a fast-paced, global environment.
* Solid understanding of procurement regulations, compliance, and risk management strategies.
* Required presence in the Zug office 3 days per week (hybrid working model).
Preferred:
* Experience in global procurement with exposure to international trade regulations.
* Fluency in English required, German and additional European language skills a strong plus.
