Mechanical Engineer
Location: Zurich / Dietlikon, Switzerland
Company: Nautica Technologies AG
About Nautica Technologies
Nautica Technologies is building autonomous underwater robots to keep ship hulls clean during normal operations. Our systems help reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and operational inefficiencies in global shipping. We are a fast-moving robotics company working at the intersection of mechanical engineering, autonomy, marine operations, and data.
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to strengthen our mechanical team and help design robust, manufacturable systems for harsh subsea and marine environments.
Your Role
As a Mechanical Engineer at Nautica, you will take ownership of mechanical design challenges across our underwater robotic systems. You will work closely with robotics, electronics, software, and operations teams to develop reliable hardware that performs in real-world marine environments.
This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys taking products from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and iteration.
What You Will Do
* Design, develop, and improve mechanical systems and components for our underwater robots
* Create detailed CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings
* Drive design decisions with strong consideration for manufacturability, assembly, reliability, and serviceability
* Perform tolerance stack‑up analysis and apply GD&T where appropriate
* Select materials and mechanical solutions suitable for harsh, corrosive marine environments
* Work closely with internal teams on integration of mechanical, electrical, and software systems
* Support prototyping, testing, debugging, and field deployment of mechanical designs
* Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to move designs into production
* Help define and maintain good engineering practices, documentation, and design standards within the team
What We Are Looking For
* B.Sc. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
* 5+ years of hands‑on experience in mechanical design
* Strong experience with CAD, ideally Onshape
* Experience with assemblies, tolerance stack‑up, and GD&T
* Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
* Experience designing for harsh and corrosive environments
* Strong practical engineering mindset with a hands‑on approach to problem solving
* Good collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
Nice to Have
* Experience with crawlers or mobile robotic systems
* Experience with magnetic systems and materials
* Experience with polymers, composites, and coatings for marine environments
* Experience with pressure vessels or subsea systems
* Experience in underwater or marine robotics
What Matters to Us
We are looking for a strong engineer first and foremost. Direct experience with crawlers or underwater systems is a plus, but not a strict requirement if the candidate brings strong mechanical design fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to learn quickly.
Why Join Nautica
* Work on a highly relevant real‑world problem in shipping and sustainability
* Build cutting‑edge robotic systems deployed in demanding environments
* Join a highly driven and collaborative team
* Take ownership and have visible impact on product development
* Be part of a company shaping a new category in maritime robotics
