Job Description
You will contribute to the final development of the technology used to coat beam screens for the High-Luminosity LHC with amorphous carbon thin films. You will also take part in the deployment and production of these coatings in the LHC tunnel as a member of the coating team.
Your responsibilities will include the fabrication and assembly of mechanical components, as well as active participation in the coating process within the LHC tunnel.

Final implementation of the coating setups, (including mechanical design & construction of customised physical vapour depositions sources, carriers and other tooling; assembly of components for Ultra High Vacuum systems).
Validating the coating technology and process (in the laboratories).
Coating production, carried simultaneously in the LHC tunnel and on surface facilities.

Your profile:
Practical experience in assembling mechanical equipment.
Machining metal in manual lathe and milling machines.
Skills:
Design of mechanical components using CAD programs (like CATIA or equivalent).
Working in teams.
Knowledge in vacuum technology is an advantage.
Knowledge of CNC is an advantage.
Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in mechanical engineering or similar field (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.
