As a successful applicant, you will join our multi-disciplinary team in our Science & Research Process Safety Laboratory located in La Plaine, Geneva. You will ensure systematic assessment of industrial risks, with emphasis on data determination and its use for the design of safe processes. You will be responsible for leading risk analysis or supplying support for different kinds of chemical processes (new innovative processes based on continuous, batch, and semi-batch operations, existing processes to be optimized, and processes utilizing powder technologies) and understanding the thermal aspects of processes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise during risk analysis studies (HAZOP, What-if, LOPA, etc.) and closely monitor procedures to identify and mitigate hazards related to the development of new processes to manufacture specialty chemicals.
Be proactive and act as a reference in technical subjects including chemical hazard assessment, explosion risk assessment, and risk analysis.
Participate actively in progress meetings for projects and new chemical development steps.
Implement process safety strategies within global R&D activities and provide robust expertise to support projects at various sites in other countries, including process transfers.
Interpret thermal data from laboratory process safety reports, including DSC, C80, ARC, AKTS, powder assessment, and other physicochemical data, to ensure proper progression of risk analyses.
You Bring
A degree in chemistry (MSc or Engineer) with a specialization in process safety or chemical engineering is required. In-depth knowledge of risk analysis is required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a multi-product environment and/or in a process safety lab is preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to find pragmatic solutions within constraints such as those in pilot and production environments are crucial.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (R&D, pilot, production, Safety Health, & Environment department, and stakeholders).
Fluency in both English and French is required.
