ERM recently launched ERM Climate Markets to leverage ERM’s unparalleled technical and project management expertise to help build the carbon credit projects of tomorrow. We are seeking an experienced financial modeler with carbon market experience to join this dynamic area of ERM.
The Carbon financial Modeler is a core member of the ERM climate markets team, working closely to support the commercial structuring lead. Responsible for building robust financial models relating to investment in carbon assets, including project development. Involved in all aspects of origination and evaluation of financial viability for carbon investment opportunities and bringing those investments to corporate funders. Responsible for managing financial risk for ERM and our clients across the portfolio.
The ideal candidate has 7+ years’ experience performing financial modelling in a related field (such as renewable energy or oil and gas) and 3+ years’ experience in carbon markets, including carbon project development. You are a team player and able to take initiative to issue spot and problem solve.
Responsibilities:
1. Primary responsibility for assessing financial return of single and portfolios of carbon projects, including projecting multi-decade cash flows and evaluating capital expenditures against projected returns.
2. Develop predictive financial models to support organizational decision-making.
3. Understand and articulate the outcome of sensitivity and scenario analysis for management decision making and action.
4. Prepare documentation for the business unit to seek funding from corporate investors.
5. Primary responsibility for interfacing with ERM finance and tax to generate recommendations for complex, multi-jurisdictional investment strategies.
6. Establish benchmarks for financial processes.
7. Track current financial data to alert stakeholders in case of deviation.
8. Provide guidance in buying or selling carbon credit inventory, making investments and generating funds.
9. Study industry-specific research and available data to predict trends and create innovative financing strategies that are fit for purpose.
10. Create written reports that enable management teams to make strategic decisions to meet business goals.
11. Develop forecasting tools to automate financial data analysis.
Skills and qualifications
12. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably with a major in finance, economics or statistics or equivalent experience.
13. Industry knowledge of carbon markets and carbon project development.
14. Proven experience working as a financial modeler, including expertise in financial modelling of greenfield carbon projects.
15. Experience with blended finance models.
16. Superior analytical skills.
17. Proven proficiency in spreadsheets, databases and financial software applications (including the software applications that you are currently using in your organization or plan to use in the future).
18. Experience monitoring investment and reporting performance.
19. Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
20. Team player with ability to work across dynamic team and add to a collegial and fun work environment.
