For one of our client, a private bank in Geneva, we a looking for a Legal Counsel on a fixed-term basis (maternity cover until 31 December 2026).
This role is critical to ensuring continuity of high-quality legal support to the business and senior management. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor, providing pragmatic and solution-driven legal guidance across a broad range of private banking, credit and regulatory matters.
The position offers direct exposure to senior stakeholders, complex transactions and strategic projects within a dynamic and highly regulated environment.
Responsibilities
* Provide day-to-day legal support to the Private Banking business, with a strong focus on credit, investments and client-related matters.
* Drafts, reviews, and negotiates a wide range of banking, financing, and commercial agreements, including credit documentation (e.g. Lombard facilities, security structures, cross-border arrangements).
* Advise on complex transactions and structuring, ensuring alignment with regulatory and risk frameworks.
* Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (including banking, financial services, corporate and data protection laws).
* Act as a key point of contact for senior management, providing clear and pragmatic legal advice aligned with business objectives.
* Manage and coordinate external counsel, where required.
* Support internal stakeholders on regulatory, governance and risk-related matters, including interactions with regulators and auditors.
* Contribute to the Bank’s strategic initiatives, including topics such as digital assets, fintech, AI and innovation, where relevant.
* Handle sensitive matters (including disputes, client issues or complex cases) with a high level of autonomy and judgment.
Qualifications
* Swiss-qualified lawyer ideally (Bar admission), or equivalent strong legal qualification.
* 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or financial institution (Private Banking experience strongly preferred).
* Strong expertise in:
o banking and finance law
o credit and security structures
o regulatory and compliance matters
* Proven ability to act as senior legal business partner, balancing rigor with commercial pragmatism.
* Experience dealing with senior stakeholders, regulators and cross-functional teams.
* Ability to work independently, take ownership and deliver under time pressure.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solution-oriented mindset.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.
* Interest in innovation, digital transformation and merging financial topics is a plus.
* Fluent in French, English mandatory, Spanish is a plus.
* Swiss residency.
* Available on short notice ideally.
