This is one of the most compelling technical leadership roles in European robotics right now.
A Swiss construction robotics company - spun out of one of the most respected digital fabrication research labs in the world - is deploying autonomous mobile robots directly onto real construction sites. These aren't lab demos. These systems are running. They are doing real work, in real environments, under real constraints.
The company is now crossing the line from advanced prototype to scalable, deployable product. That transition needs a technical leader who can own it.
This is a foundational hire. You will work directly with the founders, define the system architecture, shape the engineering organisation, and build the technical foundations that the next decade of this company will sit on. There is a clear and genuine path to CTO as the company scales.
What You’ll Work On
System Architecture and Technical Direction
* Define and maintain the full system architecture across the robotic platform, sensing, control, and software stack
* Own the integration across hardware, controls, perception, and planning layers
* Lead the transition from research-grade prototypes to reliable, field-ready systems
* Set the standards for safety, reliability, and long-term maintainability
Roadmap and Product Alignment
* Shape the technical roadmap alongside product and deployment goals
* Translate commercial and operational realities into clear engineering priorities
* Hold the balance between long-term technical vision and near-term delivery
Engineering Leadership
* Mentor engineers across software, controls, perception, and mechatronics
* Build development processes, documentation, and testing culture from the ground up
* Support hiring and technical assessment as the team grows
* Be the technical anchor during complex integration and deployment challenges
Scaling the Organisation
* Help evolve the engineering structure as headcount grows
* Contribute to building a high-performing engineering culture
* Represent the technical story to partners, customers, and investors when needed
Requirements
Must Have
* 5-10+ years of industry experience in robotics, mechatronics, or autonomous systems
* A track record of building and deploying real-world robotic or mechatronic systems
* Proven ability to work across the hardware/software boundary
* Exposure to scaling engineering teams or complex technical products
* Comfortable in early-stage environments where structure is still being built
* Hands‑on mindset - you’re not above getting your hands dirty in the lab or on site
Strong Advantage
* Background in a robotics startup or high‑growth hardware technology company
* Experience in large‑scale programmes involving complex hardware systems
* Familiarity with controls, perception, or motion planning at a system level
* Experience taking a system from prototype through to product and early scaling
* Interest in staying close to current research and emerging technology
Who This Is For
You think in systems, not components. You get energised by the point where hardware reality meets software architecture. You care about robots that actually work - reliably, repeatably, in the field. You want to help a team grow, not just ship your own code. And you’re motivated by building a company, not just a technical artefact.
What’s On Offer
* Competitive Swiss salary and meaningful equity
* A clear and genuine path to CTO as the company scales
* Ownership of the architecture and roadmap for a new category of construction robots
* Work on one of the hardest and most exciting real‑world robotics applications in existence
* A highly interdisciplinary team spanning robotics, construction, and digital fabrication
