Position Summary
We are looking for a Microbiome/ Bioinformatics Intern to join our team and contribute to a research project in the field of the human gut microbiome.
The intern will work on computational, data‑driven project using existing internal datasets. The focus is on understanding microbial functions and their relationship with nutrition and health.
Project - Food Intake Estimation & Microbial Vitamin Biosynthesis
This project explores how fecal DNA and metagenomics data can be used to:
* Estimate dietary intake based on food‑derived DNA sequences
* Investigate vitamin biosynthesis potential by gut bacteria
* Integrate above derived estimates with dietary records and biological measurements
A Day in the Life of a Microbiome Bioinformatics Intern
* Conduct scientific literature reviews to understand existing knowledge and frame research questions
* Analyze shotgun metagenomics data using existing pipelines
* Apply and adapt bioinformatics tools to internal datasets
* Interpret and visualize results to support scientific discussions
* Document methods and analyses for reproducibility
* Collaborate with microbiome scientists and bioinformaticians across teams
* Scientific presentation of the results to project teams and research groups
What will make you successful
* Master’s student or recent graduate in microbiome, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or data science
* Hands‑on experience handling sequencing data especially microbiome metagenomics data
* Familiarity with Linux, command‑line tools, and HPC environments is a strong advantage
* Programming experience in Python and/or R is a plus
* Fluency in English, written and oral
