Job Overview
The Traveling Superintendent coordinates and supervises all on-site activities necessary for the successful execution of shipboard projects. This includes oversight of company personnel and subcontractors, with flexibility to adjust plans to maintain progress. The Superintendent serves as the primary field contact, keeping the Project Manager informed of site developments and potential issues affecting timelines. Daily responsibilities include maintaining detailed records of work performed, communications, challenges, and upcoming tasks to support proactive planning across multiple job sites.
Responsibilities
* Shipboard supervision: provide daily leadership for on-site project personnel, ensure work is performed per approved procedures, maintain communication with the customer to confirm activities are coordinated, monitor overtime and attendance, and set clear performance expectations.
* Project management: help ensure the project maintains schedule, adjust as necessary, and track daily, weekly, and monthly goals.
* Documentation: prepare detailed records of daily activities, weather, personnel on site, issues and communications; maintain a project manual including drawings, schedule, QA records, customer signoffs, and daily reports; provide updates to the Project Manager on progress and potential disruptions.
* Problem solving: monitor crew activities and equipment operations; address and resolve issues that affect production; interface with customers, vendors, and management as needed.
* Safety: ensure all personnel observe safety requirements, use prescribed PPE, and understand emergency procedures.
* Inventory management: monitor on-site inventory of consumables and inform the Project Manager when replenishment is needed.
* Flexibility: perform other related duties as assigned; duties may change with or without notice.

Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities
* Demonstrated leadership to supervise and coordinate teams in technical or trade environments.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* Ability to read and interpret MS Project schedules.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; Excel and MS Project experience strongly preferred.
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
* Knowledge of OSHA safety practices; familiarity with maritime industry safety regulations preferred.
* Good communication and teamwork with the Project Manager and others.
* Adaptability to a small-company environment and willingness to take on cross-functional responsibilities.
* Ability to gain and maintain access to government-controlled facilities; DBIDS credential; security clearances; valid U.S. Driver’s License and U.S. Passport.
* Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, including a criminal background check.
* Must show proof of U.S. Person status as defined by ITAR (citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).
Education And Experience
* High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in Engineering or related field preferred but not required.
* OSHA 10 minimum certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.
* Minimum of 4 years of experience supervising tradespersons or construction crews, with demonstrated leadership.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and stand for long periods.
* Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
* Capabilities for shipyard operations, including climbing ladders, navigating stairs, reaching overhead, kneeling, crouching, walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to noise and weather, and access to restricted spaces as needed.
Travel And Other Requirements
* Travel 75%+ is required, including international travel, to supervise operations at remote work sites.
The Site Supervisor must adapt to conditions to monitor and support on-site operations while maintaining safety and efficiency.
