The Bank for International Settlements, BIS, is hiring a Senior Communications Specialist - Media and Public Relations within the Communications, Global Media and Public Relations unit.
This role is based in Basel, however, thanks to our status as an international organisation, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the job:
Uses expert knowledge of central banking, economics and finance to craft well-planned, strategic and effective communications campaigns to increase the global reach and impact of BIS communications. Advises and guides senior managers in their external engagement efforts, using a range of techniques and channels. Builds and maintains close relationships with media across time zones, languages and geographies.
By joining the Global Media and Public Relations team, you will:
* Support the Bank’s global outreach efforts with engaging and compelling communications campaigns that meet the objectives and needs of stakeholders.
* Use your expertise to advise business areas on communications and educate, influence and inform target audiences.
* Work in a dynamic and supportive environment and in collaboration with colleagues in the wider communications team.
Principal accountabilities:
* Leads the communications on specialist topics such as financial regulation, fintech and payments, or economics, supporting and guiding senior managers and planning outreach activities.
* Partners with business areas to determine communications and public relations strategic goals and needs.
* Identifies opportunities to strengthen engagement with media, including fostering close relationships with journalists around the globe.
* Has good news sense and knowledge of the media landscape.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:
* At least five years’ experience leading media and public relations campaigns, preferably in an international environment.
* University degree in a relevant field, such as economics, communications, journalism, or equivalent work experience.
* Experience in central banking, financial services or economics, would be an advantage.
* Strong knowledge of economics, finance and central banking trends in developed and developing countries.
* Experience in creating content for web-based communications, social media channels, and/or video communications.
* Strong customer orientation and ability to act proactively to address business needs.
* Dynamic, responsive team player with highly developed interpersonal skills and track record of collaboration within and across teams.
* Outstanding organisation and time management skills, including the ability to manage projects and work flexibly under deadlines and across multiple time zones.
* Outstanding English writing and editing skills. Multilingual skills are desired.
