Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Metals Trading

Role Overview
On behalf of one of our clients, an international metals trading company, we are looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the executive leadership team.
The CFO will play a central role in financial strategy, risk oversight, funding, and governance, working closely with the CEO, trading desks, shareholders, and external stakeholders. The role combines hands-on financial leadership with strategic decision-making in a fast-paced trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Define and lead the company's financial strategy, aligned with trading, risk appetite, and growth objectives.
* Oversee financial reporting, consolidation, budgeting, and forecasting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timeliness.
* Manage liquidity, cash flow, and working capital, including inventory financing and margining requirements.
* Lead relationships with banks, lenders, auditors, insurers, and external advisors, including credit facilities, trade finance, and structured financing.
* Oversee risk management frameworks in collaboration with trading and risk teams (market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk).
* Ensure strong governance, internal controls, and compliance, including regulatory, accounting, and tax matters across jurisdictions.
* Support strategic initiatives, including expansion, new trading activities, M&A, joint ventures, and investments.
* Lead and develop the finance function, including accounting, treasury, tax, compliance, and systems.
* Act as a key sparring partner to the CEO and Board, providing commercial insight and challenge to trading and investment decisions.
Candidate Profile
* Proven experience as CFO, Finance Director, or senior finance leader within a metals trading house, commodities trading company, or closely related environment.
* Strong understanding of physical metals trading, including P&L drivers, inventory valuation, hedging, and financing structures.
* Solid experience managing banking relationships and trade finance facilities.
* Excellent knowledge of IFRS (or equivalent), financial controls, and multi-entity international structures.
* Commercial mindset with the ability to operate in a high-risk, high-speed trading environment.
* Prior experience working with owners, boards, or shareholders.
* Fluent in English; additional languages are an asset.
* Based in, or willing to relocate to, Geneva or London.
