ERP Platform & Applications – SAP Basis Lead
Role Overview
The SAP Basis Lead is responsible for the technical integrity, reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of the enterprise SAP ecosystem across cloud (RISE PCE, BTP) and other platforms. Operating within an Agile/SAFe delivery model, this role ensures that the SAP technical landscape supports business operations, transformation initiatives, and platform evolution.
The SAP Basis Lead works closely with product leaders, architects, managed service providers (MSPs), cybersecurity teams, and business stakeholders to deliver a secure, stable, and scalable platform.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Technical Leadership
1. Own the technical strategy and roadmap for SAP Basis services within the ERP Platform & Applications domain.
2. Ensure enterprise alignment with SAP best practices, clean-core principles, and upgrade-safe designs.
3. Integrate SAP Activate phases with Agile/SAFe delivery activities (PI Planning, backlog refinement, sprint delivery).
Basis Administration & Operations
4. Lead and govern the MSP Basis team responsible for day‑to‑day SAP technical operations.
5. Oversee administration of SAP systems across landscapes (development, test, production), including performance, stability, and capacity planning.
6. Maintain reliable system operations covering SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP, RISE, and dependent components.
System Installations, Upgrades & Lifecycle Management
7. Plan and govern system installations, migrations, upgrades, and refreshes in collaboration with MSPs, hosting providers, and infrastructure teams.
8. Ensure SAP landscapes remain current and aligned with enterprise architecture and business roadmaps.
Performance, Monitoring & Tuning
9. Oversee proactive monitoring of SAP systems, databases, and interfaces to ensure optimal performance.
10. Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement for recurring or complex technical issues.
Security, Compliance & Risk Management
11. Partner with SAP Security and Cybersecurity teams to implement hardening, cybersecurity notes, and best-practice security controls.
12. Ensure compliance with audit, regulatory, and GxP requirements.
13. Oversee DR (Disaster Recovery) planning, testing, and incident response processes.
Patch, Release & Change Management
14. Govern the patching and release cycle, including monthly maintenance windows.
15. Ensure all changes follow the ITSM framework, with full documentation, approvals, and risk assessment.
Landscape Architecture & Design
16. Collaborate with enterprise and solution architects to design scalable, performant, and cost‑efficient SAP technical landscapes.
17. Explore cost optimization and environment rationalization opportunities.
Vendor, MSP & Stakeholder Management
18. Manage SAP technical services delivered by multi‑vendor teams, including offshore MSPs.
19. Facilitate cross‑functional collaboration with finance, operations, governance, compliance, and program teams.
Agile Delivery & Backlog Management
20. Contribute to the SAP platform backlog, ensuring technical enablers and Basis requirements are captured, prioritized, and delivered.
21. Support PI Planning with insights on platform readiness, dependencies, constraints, and risks.
22. Champion continuous improvement and DevOps‑aligned practices for SAP operations.
Required Skills & Experience
23. 5+ years of hands‑on SAP Basis experience in complex global environments.
24. Demonstrated leadership of SAP operations across hybrid landscapes (BTP, RISE, on‑premises).
25. Strong experience managing multi‑vendor/offshore teams.
26. Proven understanding of SAP lifecycle management, performance optimization, security, and integrations.
27. Experience executing within Agile/SAFe delivery models.
28. Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and cross‑team collaboration skills.
29. Experience in regulated environments (e.g., Pharma/GxP).
30. Strong knowledge of ITSM processes and industry best practices.
31. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
32. Experience with SAP RISE transformation programs.
33. SAP Activate or SAFe PO/PM certification.
34. Experience in designing and governing SAP technical architecture at enterprise scale.
