Position Title: Maintenance/Grounds Technician
Reports To: Director of Buildings and Grounds
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Full-Time, Year-Round
Hourly Rate: $18.25 – $24.05 per hour (based on experience)
Position Summary
The Maintenance/Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining school buildings and grounds in a condition of operating excellence to support safe, efficient, and welcoming learning environments. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping tasks and plays a critical role in ensuring district facilities are safe, functional, and ready for daily educational use.
* Perform general building maintenance and repairs, including work related to electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry systems
* Assist with HVAC system maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs (experience in HVAC systems is highly desirable)
* Maintain school grounds, including landscaping, snow removal, and seasonal upkeep
* Utilize computerized building management systems and maintenance tracking tools
* Conduct routine inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance or safety concerns
* Respond to work orders and emergency maintenance needs in a timely manner
* Follow established safety practices, district policies, and applicable regulations
* Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff and school personnel
* Perform related duties as assigned to support district operations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in multiple maintenance trades, including HVAC
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
* Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team
* Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organized work environment
* Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Education, Training, and Experience
* High School Diploma or GED required
* Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a related field
* Experience in a school district, municipal, or institutional setting preferred
Certificates and License Requirements
* Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record
* Ability to obtain a Pesticide Operator's License and Lead Paint Renovation and Repair Certificate within the first year of employment
