This Safety Engineer role involves contributing to the Technical Design phase of a future scientific project, focusing on safety concepts for underground and surface infrastructure. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will work closely together to develop and maintain information management tools, perform risk assessments, and define compensatory measures.
Your advanced performance-based design skills will be used to design new research facilities and check proposed technical designs. Key responsibilities include performing advanced safety studies integrating fire safety, emergency preparedness, indoor air quality, gas release, and other occupational hazards.
A Master's degree or PhD in Safety Engineering or a related field is required, along with professional certification in safety. Relevant experience includes applying performance-based design methods and implementing safety in complex infrastructures. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are also necessary for success.
You will participate in the coordination of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) with the Future Circular Collider (FCC) Safety Work Package, further develop the FCC safety concept, and contribute to the editing of the final FCC Technical Design Report.
* Represent the Safety WP of the FCC study in different committees and meetings;
* Propose technical design solutions for the safety concept;
* Write CERN Safety documentation including guidelines, instructions and rules;
* Collaborate with colleagues in other CERN projects in view of exchanging best practices.
