Overview
A global life sciences organisation is seeking an experienced CAPEX Procurement Category Buyer – Laboratory Equipment to lead sourcing activities for laboratory equipment within capital investment projects. This role acts as a strategic partner to engineering and project teams, ensuring alignment between business needs and supply market capabilities while driving cost optimisation, supplier performance, and risk mitigation.
Responsibilities
* Run RFx and vendor selection processes across early and execution phases of projects.
* Develop and implement category strategies for laboratory equipment, and translate global category strategies into effective project execution plans.
* Support large-scale CAPEX initiatives, negotiate major commercial agreements, and deliver high-value procurement solutions.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields: Business and/or Engineering.
* Good technical understanding and knowledge of laboratory or process equipment.
* 5+ years’ experience in Procurement, including at least 5 years in a global or regional category management role.
* Demonstrated experience developing and implementing sourcing strategies with measurable business results.
* Pertinent category experience in CAPEX equipment, with emphasis on laboratory equipment (e.g., analytical instruments, heating/cooling and preservation, filtration/purification, mixing/agitation, containment/safety, handling, cleaning/sterilisation).
* Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics) preferred.
* Strong business acumen with the ability to link business needs to external supplier capabilities.
* Proven negotiation and influencing skills in complex commercial and contractual agreements.
* Experience leading supplier relationship management, supplier development, and performance management using scorecards and metrics.
* Ability to develop supply risk management strategies and implement mitigation plans.
* Solid project management skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional project teams.
Preferred Requirements
* CIPS certification or equivalent (nice to have).
* German and/or French language skills (strong advantage).
* Experience supporting CAPEX projects beyond traditional cost-saving levers, including productivity and efficiency improvements.
* Strong change management capability to onboard new vendors and implement value engineering initiatives.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
* Strong customer focus with the ability to incorporate customer expectations into sourcing strategies.
* Strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate risks, interdependencies, and roadblocks.
* High level of executional excellence, accuracy, and sense of urgency.

* Location: Visp, Switzerland (minimum 3 days on site)
* Scope: CAPEX projects with global and regional stakeholder interaction
