Join to apply for the Senior Assessment Officer role at IMPACT Initiatives.

IMPACT Initiatives is a humanitarian non‑governmental organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organisation manages several initiatives, including the REACH Initiative, and collaborates with ACTED, an international NGO with headquarters in Paris and presence in thirty countries. IMPACT’s team comprises specialists in data collection, management and analysis, GIS and remote sensing.

Base pay range

Salary: 2,580 CHF – 2,640 CHF per month (before income tax) with a monthly living allowance of 300 USD.

Background on IMPACT and Reach

IMPACT Initiatives was launched at the initiative of ACTED and operates in partnership with several agencies to support humanitarian responses. We are currently looking for a Senior Assessment Officer to support our team in Pemba, Mozambique.

Contract details

Duration: 5 months, possibility of extension subject to funding availability.
Start date: 26 January 2026.
Location: Pemba, Mozambique.

Country profile

Mozambique has faced a multifaceted crisis lasting several decades, driven by climate shocks, poverty and insurgency in the north. Cabo Delgado province has experienced armed conflict since 2017, resulting in mass displacement across 14 of its 17 districts. Natural hazards such as cyclones, floods and droughts pose significant risks, exacerbated by weak infrastructure and reliance on rain‑fed agriculture. Humanitarian funding has declined, while the coordination architecture shifts toward government leadership, yet more than one million people remain in urgent need.

Position profile

The Senior Assessment Officer reports to the IMPACT Multi‑country Representative or delegates in Mozambique and is responsible for managing two (potentially three) IMPACT research cycles. Work includes design, data collection, analysis, drafting, dissemination and evaluation, as well as engagement with partners to maximise impact. Supervision of assessment or data team members and efficient resource use may be required.

Responsibilities

* Lead the design, implementation, analysis, dissemination and evaluation of research cycles with methodological rigor and adherence to IMPACT standards.
* Design and lead primary data collection activities, including public health–focused assessments for the Acute Needs Analysis.
* Produce high‑quality written outputs such as briefs, factsheets, reports, and presentations for diverse audiences.
* Clearly articulate research findings and implications to stakeholders with varying data literacy.
* Manage and adapt information‑management tools supporting the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) and broader first‑line response.
* Develop and maintain analytical frameworks (e.g., alert severity scoring, vulnerability‑based targeting) for evidence‑based prioritisation.
* Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, extracting key findings and ensuring they inform operational and strategic decision making.
* Represent IMPACT in humanitarian coordination platforms, cluster meetings, OCHA forums, government and donor engagements.
* Support the Multi‑country Representative with country strategy design, planning and proposal development.
* Identify emerging information gaps and propose new analytical or research initiatives aligned with strategic priorities.
* Coordinate closely with RRM partner data‑collection teams, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting.
* Promote partner engagement throughout research cycles to maximise uptake and impact of findings.
* Maintain strict confidentiality of all collected data and processes.

Requirements

* At least 3 years of relevant working experience in a humanitarian setting (e.g., assessments, monitoring and evaluation, research design and analysis).
* Excellent quantitative and qualitative research data analysis skills.
* Good understanding of the aid system and research community; prior experience with humanitarian coordination forums is preferred.
* Experience with Rapid Response Mechanisms, Rapid Needs Assessments, or vulnerability‑based targeting is desirable.
* Excellent verbal and written communication and drafting skills.
* Academic qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., international studies, development, humanitarian response, data science, political science).
* Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with R, statistical analysis, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign or Illustrator), GIS or remote‑sensing software is an asset.
* Ability to operate in a complex and challenging security environment.
* Past experience in the region is desirable.
* Fluency in English is required. Working proficiency in Portuguese is strongly preferred; knowledge of Spanish and/or Italian is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

* Salary: 2,580 CHF – 2,640 CHF per month (before income tax), plus 300 USD monthly living allowance.
* Enrolment in Swiss private pension fund (≈9.975 % of gross salary).
* Health, life and repatriation insurance.
* Flight tickets every 6 months and visa fees covered; in‑country travel and professional expenses fully covered.
* Luggage transportation contribution (20 – 100 kg) and insurance.
* Annual leave: 36 days per year plus public holidays of the country of assignment; family/compassionate leave where applicable.
* Pre‑departure induction: 3 days at IMPACT headquarters in Geneva + one‑week pre‑departure training at ACTED HQ in Paris, including 4‑day in‑situ security training.
* Access to psychological safety resources; health insurance covers up to 1,000 € per year of psychosocial counselling fees.
