Senior Finance and Compliance Officer for Nigeria, Based in Abuja

Created in 2010, IMPACT is a Geneva‑based NGO and the largest independent data provider in contexts of crisis. We aim to support a range of stakeholders in making better, more informed decisions in humanitarian, stabilisation, and development settings.

* Position: Finance and Compliance Officer
* Contract duration: 6 months (subject to funding confirmation)
* Starting date: 2 March 2026 (tentative)
* Location: Abuja, Nigeria (with occasional regional travel to Dakar)
* Deadline to apply: 31 December 2025


Country Profile

Nigeria faces complex security challenges including insurgencies, banditry, and humanitarian crises. IMPACT has a long history of operating in both the Northeast and Northwest, conducting multi‑sectoral needs assessments and supporting famine monitoring, nutrition and food security surveillance, and market monitoring initiatives.


FUNCTION

The position is initially recruited for the Third Party Monitoring Project covering FCDOs Humanitarian and Resilience Programme. The staff will be seconded to FACT for their mission and may support regional finance and compliance oversight, collaborating with the Regional Finance Manager for West Africa and traveling to Dakar.


Responsibilities


Financial Management and Reporting

* Work closely with FACT’s finance team to ensure proper financial documentation, budget monitoring, and compliance with donor requirements.
* Prepare and review program budgets, financial reports, and forecasts in accordance with donor and organizational guidelines.
* Support FACT in properly managing and documenting all in‑country expenses, ensuring full transparency and accountability.
* Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely submission of reports.
* Oversee financial planning, including budget phasing and expenditure tracking.
* Support preparation and review of grant agreements and donor compliance requirements.
* Ensure efficient cash flow management and monitor expenditures against budgets.
* Review and approve FACT’s financial documents to ensure alignment with organizational policies and donor agreements.
* Collaborate with the Regional Finance Manager on jointly identified financial tasks.


Financial Monitoring and Audit

* Conduct internal financial audits to assess compliance with policies and donor regulations.
* Support FACT during external audits and donor compliance reviews, ensuring financial accuracy.
* Coordinate external audits and due diligence reviews.
* Review financial transactions and documentation to ensure accuracy and transparency.
* Identify financial risks and propose mitigation measures.
* Conduct financial assessments and audits of FACT’s records, ensuring compliance with donor regulations.


Compliance & Transparency

* Ensure FACT’s adherence to donor financial compliance requirements and internal policies.
* Implement and oversee the organization’s internal control framework.
* Monitor and respond to compliance issues, including fraud prevention and risk management.
* Conduct financial training and capacity building for program and finance staff.
* Conduct due diligence and vetting of national partners and service providers, ensuring financial and operational compliance.
* Provide training and capacity‑building sessions for FACT’s finance and program teams on donor compliance and reporting standards.


Risk Management and Internal Control

* Oversee the implementation of financial and operational risk mitigation strategies.
* Support due diligence and vetting processes for third‑party partners.
* Ensure proper documentation and filing of financial and compliance records.
* Manage internal investigations related to financial irregularities and fraud.
* Establish and monitor financial control systems to detect and prevent irregularities.
* Work closely with program teams to identify financial risks in project implementation and suggest mitigation strategies.


Requirements

* Excellent academic qualifications, including a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
* Minimum of 3–4 years’ experience in financial management, compliance, or auditing within an international NGO or similar organization.
* Fluent in English and working knowledge of French a strong preference.
* Strong knowledge of financial reporting and donor compliance (FCDO, ECHO preferred) and accounting principles.
* Experience preparing budgets, cash flow statements and financial plans, and producing financial reports.
* Experience conducting internal audits and/or supporting external audits.
* Experienced with financial software (e.g., SAGE, SAGA) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
* Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a team.
* Ability to travel within Nigeria, West Africa, and internationally as needed.


Compensation & Benefits

Salary between 2 220 CHF and 2 280 CHF monthly (before income tax) with a monthly living allowance of 300 USD. Additional benefits include:

* Accommodation and food provided in the guesthouse.
* Enrollment in Swiss private pension fund (Swisslife – ~9.975 % of staff gross salary), health insurance, life insurance, and repatriation assistance.
* Flight tickets every 6 months and visa fees covered; in‑country travel costs and professional expenses fully covered.
* Contribution to luggage transportation between 20 and 100 kg, depending on contract length, plus personal property insurance.
* Annual leave of 36 days per year, public holidays of the country of assignment, and family/compassionate leave when applicable.
* Pre‑departure induction: 3 days at IMPACT HQ in Geneva plus one week pre‑departure training in ACTED HQ in Paris, including 4‑day situational security training.
* Enrollment in IMPACT Initiatives Research Foundational Learning Programme within the first 3 months.
* Psychological safety prioritised; health insurance covers up to 1 000 € per year for psychosocial counselling.
