Crossing Guard
Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Assist students and citizens in crossing public streets/highways safely.
Date Available:
2023-2024 School Year
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Cross students at designated areas safely.
2. Instruct students on basic safety when crossing an intersection.
3. Cross any pedestrian at the designated location: Elementary, Intermediate, High School.
4. Be constantly alert and aware of all traffic, moving or stopped, and any other circumstances that may affect the safety of the students.
5. Report traffic violations such as speeding or failure to stop by recording license plate numbers and descriptions of vehicles to immediate supervisor or HISD Police Dept.
6. In an emergency, take charge until proper authorities are notified and have arrived.
7. Use and care for all equipment that is issued for the task.
8. Guard must maintain self-control at all times.
Hours may vary from morning to afternoon or both.
Qualifications:
1. Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED.
2. Valid Texas driver’s license.
3. Ability to work well with youth and adults.
4. Must have dependable transportation.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent prolonged and irregular hours; repetitive hand motions; moderate standing, walking, and bending.
Primary Location: High School/Middle School along FM 2004
