Communication Specialist
Location: Belp or Lausanne, Switzerland (with regular travel to the other office, minimum once per month)

About the Role
Mercy Ships Switzerland is looking for a Communication Specialist to strengthen volunteer recruitment efforts and support event communication activities.
This is a hybrid role combining communication strategy, content creation, recruitment marketing, and event promotion. You will support the Volunteer Engagement team and help attract and retain qualified volunteers for our hospital ships while strengthening awareness of our mission across Switzerland.
The role is divided approximately as follows:
60% Recruitment & Volunteer Engagement communication support
20–40% Event communication support
Remaining capacity for cross-departmental communication projects
You will be part and collaborate with internal teams in Switzerland, international Mercy Ships offices, and global digital communication specialists.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Communication
Create and manage engaging content for social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube)
Produce multilingual communication materials
Draft monthly newsletters for prospects, volunteers, and alumni
Update automated email workflows and CRM communication journeys
Maintain and improve volunteer-related website content
Write blog articles, volunteer stories, and campaign content
Coordinate paid digital campaigns with international teams
Support departmental communication initiatives across digital platforms
Print & Media Communication
Write articles, advertorials, and advertisements for magazines and newspapers
Coordinate placements with Swiss media partners
Manage deadlines linked to print production and invoicing
Identify media visibility opportunities (press, radio, TV, webinars)
Support creation of brochures, campaigns, videos, and promotional materials
Events Communication Support
Support the Events Manager on communication before, during, and after events
Prepare stakeholder communication plans
Provide administrative support linked to event organisation
Attend selected events or conferences when required
Additional Contributions
Support other departments on communication needs
Represent Mercy Ships Switzerland externally when needed
Profile
Required Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English
French is a strong advantage
Team Player and ability to work collaboratively
Ability to work in a matricial organization
Proven experience in multimedia content creation (graphics, video, web, audio)
Strong knowledge of digital communication channels and audience engagement
Proficiency with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, CMS platforms, video editing software
Strong command of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Strong organisational skills and autonomy
Professional and clear stakeholder communication style
Willingness to work occasionally evenings or weekends for events
Preferred Experience
Degree in Communication, Multimedia, Marketing or equivalent practical experience
Experience in NGO, humanitarian, healthcare, or mission-driven environments
Knowledge of Swiss media landscape
Familiarity with CRM / marketing automation tools such as HubSpot or Salesforce
Understanding of medical terminology is an advantage
