Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement (6-12 months). Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.
You will be part of the Research & Development Team and contribute with your creativity and technical knowledge to the development of new and innovative solutions. You will be responsible for the development of design solutions for new products and for design optimizations in the existing product portfolio.

This role is contributing to the division Smart Buidlings within Electrification and is part of the Critical Power Product Line organization.
You will be mainly accountable for:
* Support, collaboration and self‑directed execution of tasks, analysis and technical investigations within the framework of new development and product care projects for low voltage products, components and systems
* Development and further optimization of electromagnetic actuators for low voltage products
* Manufacturing‑ready design of components and sub‑systems in exchange with the relevant departments and active implementation of design solutions in cooperation with the product teams
* Support and collaboration in product master data maintenance
* Procurement of new components / prototypes and support of test planning
* Creation of documentation
Qualifications for the role:
* Bachelor or Master studies / degree in electrical engineering / mechatronics or in a related field
* You have solid technical knowledge in electrical system engineering for low voltage products e.g. electrical connections
* You have established skills in the area of magnetic materials and systems, conductive materials for the use in electric system as well as for related surface treatment technologies and processes
* You have very good knowledge of the use of CAD software (preferably Solidworks) as well as very good knowledge and application of Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS‑Project and PowerBi)
* You have experience with problem‑solving methodologies and product change management
* You have a high degree of self‑motivation; you show initiative and work in a results‑oriented manner with a professional mindset
* You feel comfortable communicating in German and English (spoken and written) and have professional communication skills
* You hold a current valid VISA/work permit for Switzerland or a confirmation for a mandatory internship from your university
