About The Role UCB is transforming the way we manage physical assets across all sites worldwide. As part of this transformation, we are looking for a Global Clean & Black Utilities Expert to join our Physical Asset Management organization within Engineering & Sites & Facilities (ESF).
In this global expert role, you will shape UCB’s strategy for clean utilities and selected non-GMP utility and waste systems, ensuring consistency, innovation, compliance, and safety across all CAPEX and lifecycle projects.
You will be the reference for Clean Utilities globally and play a critical role in defining standards, driving innovation, and influencing major engineering programs across Belgium, Switzerland, the US, Japan, and the UK.
Who You’ll Work With The Physical Asset Management / Asset Technical Standards & Expertise Team.
Engineering & Sites & Facilities project leads.
Global network of experts and external partners (e.g., ISPE).
Asset owners, users, and design engineering leads.
EHS, Quality, and manufacturing stakeholders worldwide.
Your expertise will directly contribute to UCB’s global technical excellence and long-term asset strategy.
Responsibilities Define and develop global technical standards for clean utilities, gas systems, water pretreatment, and waste systems, integrating safety, sustainability, and regulatory requirements.
Lead the global strategy for utility-related systems on all engineering CAPEX projects and contribute expertise during design reviews and technical assessments.
Provide expert guidance to engineering teams, asset owners, and project leads to ensure robust technical solutions aligned with cGxP, EHS, and Good Engineering Practices.
Monitor technological trends and drive innovation in equipment lifecycle management, digitalization, and sustainable engineering solutions.
Build and lead a global network of internal and external experts, fostering knowledge flow and best-practice sharing across UCB.
Support transformation initiatives across UCB sites worldwide and contribute to technical peer reviews, gap assessments, and competency matrix development.
Act as SME for one Safety / Potential Life-Changing Activity topic (e.g., pressurized equipment, chemical storage & handling, LOTO).
Ensure technical oversight and follow-up of projects managed by Engineering & Sites & Facilities.
Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related technical field.
10+ years of experience in utilities, engineering, or technical operations in the pharmaceutical or regulated industry.
Strong technical background in clean utilities, gas systems, and waste systems in cGxP environments.
Deep expertise in clean utilities (WFI, RO, purified water, clean steam, gases) and waste systems (chemical, process, biowaste).
Strong knowledge of engineering standards, cGMP/GLP, ICH, FDA CMC, ISPE/PDA guidance.
Experience with qualification & validation (V-cycle, ASTM E2500).
Ability to interpret and set up P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams.
Strong communication skills and ability to influence across multiple levels and functions.
Proven leadership and experience working in large, complex, international projects.
Full professional proficiency in English and French.
