Lighting Technician
Viking Cruises is a shipboard role reporting to the Stage Manager. The Lighting Technician is responsible for the programming, operation, and maintenance of all lighting and special effects systems across the ship's entertainment venues.
Core Responsibilities
* Show Operation: Rig, circuit, and focus lighting for production shows, cabarets, and guest lecturers. Operate manual and computer‑controlled lighting systems during live performances.
* Programming: Program lighting consoles (such as GrandMA and Martin M1) during technical rehearsals and update show files as needed.
* Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and minor to moderate repairs on lighting inventory, including moving fixtures, LED lights, and dimming systems.
* Special Effects: Manage and maintain atmospheric effects like fog machines, haze systems, laser emitters, and strobes.
* Safety & Logistics: Ensure all overhead rigging is inspected and secure, especially during rough weather. Participate in mandatory emergency drills and safety training.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
* Software & Hardware: Proficiency in GrandMA, GrandMA2, and Martin M1 consoles. Knowledge of DMX control systems and advanced wiring is required.
* Experience: A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in live event lighting is typically required.
* Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent vocational training is preferred.
* Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50–70 pounds, climb ladders or scaffolding, and navigate theatre catwalks.
* Grooming: Strict adherence to Viking’s grooming standards; visible tattoos are not permitted.
