The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) of Bern conducts interdisciplinary research relevant to public health, including clinical epidemiology, social and behavioral health, biostatistics, and international and environmental health. The ISPM is renowned for expertise in environmental health effects, infectious disease spread, and vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.
The Child and Adolescent Health group, led by Prof. Dr. med. Claudia Kuehni, conducts population-based and clinical studies in child health. Within this group, PD. Dr. Myrofora Goutaki leads projects on Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), a rare multi-organ genetic disease affecting approximately 1 in 7,500 individuals, primarily impacting the upper airways with issues like recurrent otitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, and hearing impairment, significantly affecting daily life.
The ongoing EPIC-PCD study collects clinical and patient-reported data to understand the evolution of ENT problems over time and improve care for PCD patients. We are seeking a PhD or MD-PhD student to analyze data from this cohort, manage the study under supervision, and collaborate with an international team of experts and patient representatives.
