Head of Editorial & Amplification

The Head of Editorial & Amplification shall support the Director of Communications by supporting the general positioning of the Communications Division by inputting into the management of the team, in particular, by overseeing an editorial department that delivers content and creative storytelling in line with requirements that ensures a stakeholder first delivery of a complete suite of communications services that focuses on pro-active messaging across multiple media.
The Head of Editorial & Amplification shall ensure that the editorial department uses its expertise to deliver to the needs of each business unit (in collaboration with requirements provided by colleagues) with expertise and implemented across multiple platforms to ensure messaging is delivered to relevant target audiences in a meaningful and consistent way.
Key Responsibilities:
* Implement all editorial requirements (text, data/statistics, photo, graphics, audio and video) for delivery of competition and corporate editorial coverage across FIFA’s owned and operated digital platforms according to deadline and budget.
* Input/Output: Focus on output by maintaining a close cross-divisional collaboration with other communications colleagues in creating and publishing editorial as part of product delivery on FIFA owned and operated channels, syndication/distribution platforms and other earned media.
* Execute editorial requirements (with an emphasis on digital communication methods) to promote individual stakeholder activities in line with the President’s Vision and the overall objectives of the organisation and agree an editorial plan, calendar and budget with each stakeholder account manager that governs the effective delivery of such content across various channels.
* Establish and oversee dedicated 24/7 newsroom, social, multimedia and project management teams to ensure the necessary editorial resources are available to deliver storytelling in an effective and efficient manner according to the agreed editorial plan.
* Establish an editorial board that establishes an editorial matrix of coverage and subsequently assesses requests from across the organisation to determine the appropriate messaging approach.
* Ensure that the relevant owned and operated channels are maintained, updated and positioned according to the overall positioning of the division.
* Establish dedicated multilingual workflows for newsroom operations, dedicated social workflows, and dedicated multimedia workflows in line with overall company policies.
* Implement the editorial positioning for FIFA’s corporate and competition activities in line with management guidelines across owned and operated channels.
* Organise, where identified, FIFA regional offices to support as editorial production hubs.
* Manage the production and delivery of pre-produced video material and the delivery of relevant streamed video content for FIFA corporate and competition activities according to agreed procedures.
* Lead the development and cross-divisional application of a content style guide that upholds FIFA’s standards, values and style across all activities.
* Support the usage of all library, archive and digital asset management system tools and content tagging for photos, graphics and certain video for all non-competition-related FIFA activities.
Requirements:
* Proven experience (10+ years) working in an international sports and/or media organisation – with a specific background in football and/or journalism.
* Media communications or public relations expertise and the ability to build and maintain an audience and maintain interest over time.
* Excellent written and spoken communication skills and management of messaging and media.
* Excellent understanding and identification with football.
* Excellent command of communications platforms and media relations.
* Expertise in video production and social media as well as standard messaging and content creation.
* Ability to work in a political environment and to be diplomatic.
* Excellent English skills, including writing (for print and broadcast), communication, and presentation.
* An outstanding team spirit with an entrepreneurial mindset that thrives when being challenged.
* Ability to foster long-term relationships with key professionals.
* Solid experience coordinating successful communications campaigns.
* Proven ability to motivate, inspire and manage a team to deliver at the top of their potential.
* Ability to handle a budget, contracts – and manage an RFP process.
* Ability to, beyond the department, think for the division and the organisation.
* Ability to liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
* Comfortable presenting to and communicating with top management and key stakeholders (internal and external).
* Ability to handle conflictual situations.
