Professorship for Muon Spectroscopy
The Faculty of Science at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the PSI Center for Neutron and Muon Sciences (CNM) jointly invite applications for a full‑time Professorship for Muon Spectroscopy, subject to an application deadline of 14 April 2026.
Responsibilities
* Head the Laboratory for Muon Spin Spectroscopy (LMU) at PSI CNM, overseeing the scientific exploitation of the Swiss Muon Source (SμS), operating seven muon instruments, and running a world‑leading user programme with approximately 200 Swiss and international users annually.
* Manage ~20 permanent scientists, technicians, and administrative staff, as well as post‑doctoral researchers and students in two research groups focusing on bulk μSR studies and low‑energy muons.
* Engage with national and international collaborations, including the NCCR Muoniverse, the PSI Quantum Matter and Materials Discovery Center (QMMC), and the UZH DEMETER Center (DETECTOR & MATTER at EXTRME TEST and RESearch).
* Actively participate in the academic self‑administration of the Department of Physics.
* Design, deliver, and develop courses on condensed‑matter physics, quantum materials, and muon science; supervise PhD, bachelor and master theses.
* Provide leadership and communication skills for managing large‑scale research infrastructure and continuously improve these skills.
Qualifications
* Established researcher in quantum and/or energy materials with a proven track record using and developing muon instrumentation.
